In honour of World Breastfeeding Week, Halsey shared a stunning, intimate photo with their newborn, Ender Ridley Aydin. The “Without Me” singer and boyfriend Alev Aydin welcomed their baby on July 14.

The new mom, 26, has advocated on issues of race, identity and gender in the past, and has been vocal about their various struggles on their journey to motherhood (including miscarriage and endometriosis), so it’s no surprise that they are also tackling the social stigma surrounding breastfeeding.

This year, the World Breastfeeding Week is observed Aug. 1 to Aug. 7, with the aim to raise awareness about the importance of breastfeeding for both mom and baby’s health, and to help normalize it. It also acknowledges how wrought and challenging the period can be for new mothers especially.
As writer @chasingalicarr acknowledges, breastfeeding for a full year takes up close to the same amount of time as a full time job (around 1,800 vs. 1,960 hours), challenging employers to do better when placing unreasonable expectations on new moms.

We applaud Halsey for using their platform to bring awareness to something that, while completely natural, still bears far too many stigmas, especially when done in public.
