The night of the Academy Awards, we all ogle and guffaw red carpet celebrity hair choices (we can’t help it!), and hand-select styles we love and loathe. Every year, no matter what, some of our favourite Hollywood celebrities have major hair fails, which goes to show that even A-listers aren’t immune to bad hair days. Here are 12 of the most unflattering hairstyles from the 2014 Academy Awards.

Jennifer Lawrence
We love Jen’s short pixie cut, but this swept-back style looks way too old for such a beautiful young woman. Princess Di pulled it off in the '80s, but with the red-hot Dior dress J. Law needs a sexier, more modern style.

Amy Adams
This ‘do just doesn’t do anything for this gorgeous American Hustle star. Her cobalt blue dress and soft makeup looked stunning, and wearing her hair up was definitely the right choice, but it was pulled too tight, making her look like a young boy from the front. What was supposed to be a vintage wave up top ended up looking more like an unfinished kink that distracted from her natural beauty.

Julia Roberts
Who doesn’t love Julia? Her good looks and infectious smile are always a winning combo, but her new blonde hair colour looks blah. When she wears her locks darker, Julia’s beautiful hazel eyes stand out and her skin tone is warmed. We’re really not into this new straw-coloured hair.

Camila Alves
She’s only 32 years old and yet this swept-back, textured low bun makes her look ten years older. This mature hairstyle combined with the pale lip made this vixen look more "old aunt" than "old Hollywood glam." Something sleek to match her asymmetrical gown would’ve suited her better.

Margot Robbie
We’ve gotten to know this Aussie beauty in all her bleached-blonde, golden-skinned glory. When she stepped out onto the red carpet on Sunday with black hair and purple lips, her transformation was a little too goth-chic for our liking. Margot is stunning, but in future, she should stick to her glowing beach babe look.

Suki Waterhouse
Suki Waterhouse looked more like Bradley Cooper’s daughter than his girlfriend with this childish hairstyle. The girlie bangs and braided updo were more suited for a schoolyard than a sophisticated event.

Portia de Rossi
Ellen did such a good job of hosting the Oscars she obviously didn’t have time to tell her wife that her pulled-back hair wasn't very flattering. Portia normally looks great with her hair off her face, but her streaky blonde tresses were too piecey and made her look stiff.

Sally Hawkins
I totally loved Sally’s hair…if she was in jeans and a cute top and meeting friends for coffee. Her shaggy hair paired with her intricately designed lace dress was way too much. The Blue Jasmine star needed something more refined to balance out her intense long-sleeved dress--a simple updo would’ve done the job.

Anna Kendrick
With such an elaborate haute couture gown, you’d think Anna would’ve opted for something more exciting than a simple side-part French twist. It was pretty from the back but the tucked-behind-the-ear piece at the front looked like she was dashing off to the grocery store--a bit too casual for such an important event.

Kristen Bell
This prom queen updo looked too rigid for Kristen. The two strands falling onto her face looked "placed" and the updo was just plain boring. She needs something relaxed and flowy to soften her sharp features.

Lady Gaga
Gaga isn’t what you think of when it comes to red carpet elegance and Sunday night was no exception. Her platinum blonde hair was pulled off her face and backcombed for volume, making her face look long and her forehead pronounced. Paired with those auburn-brown Spock-like eyebrows, she managed to maintain her bizarre image.

Liza Minnelli
Oh Liza…what were you thinking? Nobody should match their hair to their outfit, especially when the outfit is Smurf blue! The streaked hair and heavy makeup was tacky and unflattering.
