If you commute to work on anything but a bike or your legs, you know how expensive it can be. Expert Market and Business Insider recently looked at the cost of commuting in 50 cities around the world. They took the average monthly income in each city and the cost of a daily unlimited travel pass to figure out the percentage of monthly income going to commuting via public transit. In some cities, more than 20% of the average income goes to commuting.
By way of comparison, commuting in big North American cities costs between 4% and 8% of average income.
