We Ship Them: Celebrity Couples Who Didn't Fall in Love at First Sight
Love at first sight doesn't happen for everyone. No first glances that led to forever here — these celebrity couples may not have fallen in love at first sight but they did discover it a little later. We're talking about celebrity couples who took some extra time to sniff out the romantic possibility and we're celebrating their happily ever afters that took a bit longer to bloom. From Chrissy Teigen and John Legend to Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds and more, these celeb couples found their ways to each other — and we definitely ship them.
Chrissy Teigen and John LegendBack in 2007, she starred in one of his music videos, they hooked up and he went on tour. They eventually found their way back to one another but even John acknowledged that in the beginning, it wasn't all hearts and flowers.
"I wasn't like, 'This is the woman I'm going to marry' from day one," Legend told Los Angeles Confidential in 2014. "For me I’m the kind of person who needs to grow into that feeling. It was probably a couple of years in when I could already see us being together forever."
Adorable. Now, she's a celebrity mom who is hilariously real about motherhood.
Gwen Stefani and Blake SheltonThese two met on the set of The Voice, where they both served as coaches. But the chemistry was palpable. Both were near the ends of their marriages (she to Gavin Rossdale; he to Miranda Lambert) and once the divorces were announced, Gwen and Blake began dating shortly after.

Dax Shepard and Kristen BellThey may be one of Hollywood's best couples but the magic didn't start right off the bat. It was 2007, both were at a birthday dinner for mutual friends — but that was it. In fact, it wasn't even that sweet. Kristen has described that first meeting as "not electric," while Dax admitted Bell's personality was a lot.
"When I met her and her friends, I was suspicious of their unbridled happiness," he told Good Housekeeping. "I thought, 'Something stinks here; they're in a cult.'"
Mila Kunis and Ashton KutcherWe all know that Kutcher was Kunis' first kiss — thanks to their That '70s Show characters — but with her being 14 and him five years her senior, thankfully nothing came of it then.
"It was really weird. I was like, 'Isn't this illegal?' It was really awkward," he told Howard Stern. "She was 14! She was like my little sister." And while she initially thought he was good-looking," Kutcher admitted he grew to be annoying "because I was like a big brother." Um, clearly they moved past that hella awkward phase.

Jason Sudeikis and Olivia WildeMiscommunication is what stopped these two from getting together sooner; he thought she was in a relationship; she thought he wasn't interested. Thankfully, a friend saw through it all and intervened.
"I met Jason, and I thought he was so charming ... but he didn't even get my number," Wilde told expert tips for a divorce-proof marriageAllure in October 2013. "Over the next six months we kept running into each other. [One night], my best guy friend walked up to him and said, 'This is Olivia's number. Use it.' That was the beginning."
Gabrielle Union and Dwyane WadeWhen Union first met Wade, she was dating someone else but it took Patti LaBelle to convince her to take a chance on the younger man.
"She was like, 'Girl, you better drop that zero and get you a hero.'" Gabrielle said on The Late Late Show with James Corden, adding that she wasn't exactly head over heels upon their first meeting. "At the time he wasn't even drinking. So it was like sober guy in the bar, which is a little lurk-y. When I first saw him, he was just watching us from up above and we were down below." Hmm, seems she eventually didn't hate him looking at her.
Justin Theroux and Jennifer AnistonAniston's first thoughts of Theroux: "I thought he was very sweet and he was always very nice. But I remember thinking he was very dark," Aniston told PopSugar of their first meeting on the 2007 set of Tropic Thunder. "At first you think he could be like a serial killer, but he is actually the nicest person in the world." They were married in 2015 and divorced three years later.
Other celeb couples whose splits were amicable.
Calvin Harris and Rita OraThings began badly in the beginning. "I don't know if you remember but at the start we had a Twitter feud. So we never really liked each other in the beginning," Rita recalled. "Then after that, it just kind of happened really. It was backstage at a thing when we first met and it went from there."

Kurt Russell and Goldie HawnJust because they've been together for more than three decades does not mean they met in an adorable way. It was their five-year age difference that put off Goldie — but eventually Kurt became too irresistible — and she could resist no longer.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer GarnerDespite critics not loving their second movie together, Affleck came out of it with Garner, so he didn't care about the flop. "That's where I found my wife," he told Playboy in 2013. "We met on Pearl Harbor, which people hate, but we fell in love on Daredevil". Aw.

Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle GellarThe two met on the set of I Know What You Did Last Summer, but it took a couple years for them to start dating. "We were just friends," Prinze told E! We already kind of knew all the faults in the other person."

Max Handelman and Elizabeth BanksBanks and Handelman were both freshman at the University of Pennsylvania — but all Elizabeth was looking for was a little fun.
"I didn't meet my husband and think, I've met the man I'm going to marry," she told People. "I was like, He's cute. I'll f*ck him, because I'm 18 and in college." Those must've been some fun times.
Lili Reinhart and Cole SprouseThe Riverdale actors, along with their co-stars, took part in a friendship test where they revealed their first impressions of one another. Needless to say, love wasn't immediately on their minds.
"I thought his voice was annoying," Reinhart said of Sprouse. "I was like, 'That guy's got an annoying voice.' And now it's grown on me, I guess."
As for Lili, Cole described her as "a tough egg to crack," and "very shy, at first, and reserved," before revealing that it was about halfway into the first season where she started letting people in. Specifically, Cole.
Unlike Lili and Cole, these on-screen couples couldn't stand each other.
Carey Mulligan and Marcus MumfordCarey and Marcus met as teenagers through a penpal exchange program through their respective churches. Cute, right? The letters eventually stopped but the pair reconnected as adults and the rest is history.

Celebs recalling their first dates might be the cutest thing ever.
Blake Lively and Ryan ReynoldsRyan and Blake first met in 2010 on the set of The Green Lantern — but were with other people at the time (he was married to Scarlett Johansson; she was dating her Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley). But they remained close; so close, in fact, that a year later (after Reynolds and ScarJo finalized their divorce, and Lively was newly single), they decided to go on a double date — with other people.
"We were buddies then," Ryan told Entertainment Weekly's SiriusXM show. "I remember it was funny because for about a year after Green Lantern had come and gone and we were both single. We went on a double date. She was on a date with another guy and I was on a date with another girl."
He added: "That was the most awkward date because we were just like fireworks coming across. It was weird at first but we were buddies for a long time. I think it's the best way to have a relationship is to start as friends."
