Fall is a game-changing season for fashion. Since the weather is a bit chillier, it’s a fun time to experiment with different styles. It’s always a struggle for me to not be tempted to go online and order a boatload of chunky sweaters, blazers, dark wash denim and blanket scarves. After spending several years testing out different autumn looks, I’ve finally found the best pieces under $50 (!!!) that every stylish woman should have in their closets. Drum roll please…

The Blanket Scarf

I love the versatility of a good, over-sized scarf. There’s nothing like feeling like you’re wearing a literal (but somehow socially acceptable) blanket in public. Some of my fave ones come from Zara — and are only $35. They can also be tied in SO. MANY. FREAKING. WAYS. If you do a quick search on YouTube, you can find them tied as tops, fancy knotted scarves and even tote bags.

Dark Denim

The mom jean is coming back in all different shades of Indigo blue. Old Navy has tons of affordable styles that are on-trend and won’t break your bank. If you’re looking to go a more sustainable route — check out your local thrift store. Check out the men’s racks and aim for Levi’s or Wrangler when you’re on your search. Vintage denim is always timeless.

Aviator Sunglasses

Aviator sunglasses are an absolute staple for me all year-round — especially when it gets cold. They are the perfect athleisure accent to add to any outfit. I love finding them at TOPSHOP with brass gold details.

The Cargo Jacket

This army green staple is an absolute must. It’s great paired with a hoodie underneath, adding an extra layer of warmth as it offers both a practical use and fashionable one. I love pairing it with a midi dress — it’s such a great juxtaposition between feminine an utilitarian style.

Black Turtleneck (duh!)

The slick, black turtleneck is not only an ode to super woman Audrey Hepburn, but also an extremely versatile piece you can match with anything. For an ever-classic look, get inspired by the Funny Face actress and wear it with a pair of skinny trousers and flats. The GAP has great ones that always go on sale — always.

So there you have it, folks! All of my must-have pieces you need in your wardrobe (if you don’t have them already). Not only are these pieces great separate, but are also great all layered together. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve rocked these staples – but all have definitely make an appearance on my Instagram, @rachspeed! What staples are you looking for when the weather gets cooler?
