I Tried it: 16 Cannabis-Infused Beauty and Hair Products
The beauty industry has never been one to show up late to the party — and getting on board with cannabis-infused beauty and hair products is no exception. From long-time players in the wellness game like Kiehl’s to indie brands with cult followings like Milk Makeup and even Canadian licensed producers, companies big and small are noticing the growing trend in cannabis-infused beauty products.
There are heaps of cannabis-infused items out there already from creams to serums to oils as well as mascara, shampoos and more. If you’ve been curious to try some cannabis-infused beauty products, there’s never been a better time. But the truth is, finding the right ones can be tedious, not to mention expensive.
Lucky for you, dear reader, I went ahead and tried 16 different cannabis-infused beauty and hair products, so you don’t have to. Read on to discover what worked best for me.
Mary’s Nutritionals BALANCE Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid SerumHyaluronic acid serums are known to give the skin a much-needed moisture boost, but what I liked about this one from Mary’s is how it’s infused with activated hemp extract as well as peptides and vitamin B5. The three ingredients join forces to increase moisture, thus giving my skin a natural glow, and also helps improve skin texture and tones it, too. Use it for at least three weeks to see the benefits.

Cannuka Hydrating Lip BalmI’ll be honest, I’ve been a Caramax user since I was old enough to buy my own beauty products, but one lip chap that I’ve been reaching for more often is Cannuka’s hydrating lip balm. The CBD-infused balm is easily absorbed into the lips and provides relief to your chapped and inflamed skin. CBD is known to reduce swelling, so if you’ve managed to get a sunburn on your lips, this stuff can be a lifesaver. It’s also cruelty-free, all-natural and has PETA’s stamp of approval.

Design.Me Gloss.ME Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Hair SerumThis cannabis-infused hair oil works on all hair types, but as someone with curly locks (read: frizz), I really appreciate this product. It helps make my hair more manageable on even the most humid of days — and super silky to touch too. It’s THC-free, so you’re not going to get high from working this stuff into your strands. It’s also packed with other nourishing oils including rice bran, argan and moringa seed. It’s not only vegan-friendly, but also cruelty-free, gluten-free, sulphate-free and paraben-free.

Josie Maran’s Skin Dope CBD Argan OilThis product uses argan oil as a base and is infused with 100mg of CBD, harvested in sunny California. It’s the kind of product that anyone with dry or inflamed skin will enjoy. It smells good and helps hydrate everything inch of your bod (no the outside, not inside!) from dry elbows or patches of rough skin on your knees to skin that maybe saw a bit to much sun after a weekend at the pool.

Leef Organics Nooks + Crannies SoapLeef Organic’s cannabis-infused soap is a great alternative to your traditional bar soap. Each bar has 20mg of CBD extract as well as white tea, ginger, charcoal and chamomile. It calms angry skin and works on most skin types (though, like any new beauty product, try it on a small patch first). Not only is the soap itself a great find, but the packaging is plantable and has organic, non-GMO tomato seeds embedded in it.

Upothecary Sativa ShampooUpothecary is the apothecary arm of Up Cannabis, the Canadian licensed producer backed by the Tragically Hip. If you’re not a morning person, I guarantee the smell of this cannabis-infused shampoo will make you one… or, at the very least, coax you out of dream land and into reality as you sleepily scrub the stuff onto your scalp. It did for me. The shampoo is made in Canada and loaded with terpense including d-limonene (also found in lemons) and terpinolene (also found in parsnips), as well as sativa seed extract and sativa seed oil.
Sativa Shampoo, $15
Ildi Pekar CBD Night MaskIldi Pekar has spent over 20 years helping clients love their skin. She’s one of New York’s most favourite estheticians, and now, the Humgarian-native is dabbling in the cannabis-infused beauty world. Finally. Her line is expensive, yes, but if you’re into luxury beauty and want to try one product, make it this CBD night mask. The mask is thick — but not too thick and and is housed in a one-ounce tub. It’s got 250 mg of CBD oil per package, as well as other power-house ingredients like aloe vera juice, rose hip seed, cold-pressed primrose oil and more.

Mary’s Nutritionals Dead Sea Salt Body ScrubIf you’re a sucker for a good scrub like I am, this is for you. Mary’s Dead Sea salt scrub is infused with hemp extract and will exfoliate all of that gross dead skin (which you can’t see, but I guarantee it’s there) from your bod and leave you feeling so smooth, you’ll find yourself stroking your own legs or arms. It also doesn’t dry out the skin (and I have very dry skin), which is awesome.
Dead Sea Salt Body Scrub, $53
Upothecary Indica ConditionerJust like smoking an indica can make the body feel heavy and relaxed, Upothecary’s cannabis-infused indica conditioner is meant to make your hair feel the same way. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve got curly hair and I was pleasantly surprised how tame this conditioner made my hair look and feel. In addition to cannabis sativa seed extract, this conditioner has chamomile, cloves, lavender and rose oil extract, so it smells earthy and delicious. It’s also made in Canada.
Indica Conditioner, $9

Herb Essntls MoisturizerThe entire herb Essntls collection is no frills and no fuss, but it works. Its moisturizer is a nice texture and not heavy or greasy, but still left my face looking and feeling hydrated. As the brand explains, “cannabis sativa seed oil stimulates the natural oil production your skin needs to keep hydrated and elastic,” so rather than adding a layer of moisture to your skin, it works with the skin. Magic.
Medterra CBD Rapid Cooling CreamOkay, this isn’t necessarily a beauty product so much as it is a wellness product, but this stuff is amazing and should be worth nothing. Think of Medterra’s CBD cooling cream as the modern day version of the tiger balm you dad used to (or still does) use. The cream, which comes in two strengths (250mg CBD or 750mg CBD) can be applied anywhere you’ve got inflammation, soreness or pain.
CBD Rapid Cooling Cream, $66
Kiehl’s Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal ConcentrateKiehl’s is a veteran beauty brand, so you know when it launches a cannabis-infused beauty product, it’s done its research. This lightweight face oil helps reduce redness and calm the skin. It’s lightweight and uses hemp-derived cannabis sativa seed oil in a green oregano oil base.

EMERA Nourishing CBD Detangler PlusEmera has been making hemp-infused hair-care products out of California since 1996. It’s detangler is the perfect addition to any beauty regime and will make brushing your hair post shower so much more pleasant. At least, it did for me. This spray-in product also protects against the heat from styling tools. If you’re curious, but not ready to commit, they sell a sample box for US $15 that comes with four of its products in a mini test size.
Nourishing CBD Detangler Plus, $33
Milk Makeup Kush High Volume MascaraProducts like creams and oils and soaps are the most common beauty cannabis-infused beauty products on the market, but some brands are thinking outside the box. Milk’s cannabis seed oil mascara helps thicken and lengthen lashes. Currently it only comes in black (sorry to all you brown or brown/black users), but it genuinely works. I recommend two coats to really reap the thickening and lengthening benefits. Like most product on this list, Milk’s mascara is vegan-friendly as well as, paraben-, gluten-, silicone-, fragrance- and cruelty-free.
Kush High Volume Mascara, $32
