Your Call

Sick of your coworkers?

Your coworker comes in sick - again. She doesn't want to waste all those sick days lying on the couch! How do you politely tell her to stop infecting everyone?

Ask your boss to take care of the situation. It is them that lose out on man-power when the one sick person turns into ten.

Kindly tell them that you understand that they dont want to waste there days but it will be worse for the company if more people get sick because that would mean less people and more work for everyone else.

your program x-weighted and your host paul. biggest male chauvinist i have every seen. really hard on overweight woman. seems to congratulate every male that comes on the programk as trying teir best. you try being a woman and losing weight. it is not possible to please this man. we have no idea of his history. he shows up evaulates people and expects results. men have an easier time. they lose weight faster and they don't have the day to day resposibility that women do. that is the way i feel. thank you, mary finney

Place a bottle of hand sanitizer and Lysol disinfecting wipes on your desk.
Be sure to use it if he/she comes around your desk. Don't be shy, share it with co-workers who also have contact with the infected.
You could also wear a face mask ;o)

Sometimes you just don't want to let your co-workers down, you feel as if you call in sick they will have to pick up the slack for you, I will come in so they don't have to do my job.

Just be polite and tell her how she's affecting others. Because one day she might have to face a situation like that and i bet she wont be happy :)

People get mad if you come in sick and people get mad when you call in sick...its a non win situation. But please keep the germs at home for the sake of the rest of the world.

If a co-worker comes in sick i would proably advise her that her health is more inportant than any thing so taking time to rest and relax would make her better even if it is for a day or two and eating and dringking more nutriment and vegteables.

I agree with the comment about this subject being a no-win situation. If you come in sick or stay home sick, comments are made. People have to understand that depending on what is wrong with you it can be very contagious and home rest and isolation is the best solution, as long as "staying home sick" is not taken advantage of

Actually, here's a story about me being the sick co-worker, I swear this will be good. I had some gastro issues last year that started in August. After 6 months of suffering and trying to change my diet, I finally decided to go back to work. My immune system has always been bad, and this gastro thing did not help at all. I would get a cold once a month and it was hard to go to work and suffer through the day, so I'd it least try for a half day. Well, my co-worker finally had enough when I needed a half-day for a dental appointment and proceeded to tell me how fake I was, and that I was doing nothing BUT faking. This is probably why people don't want to take time off work. My immune system is slowly starting to build up though, and it's getting a bit easier to work with a tad bit of a cold:) YAY:D Beware of people who think they're super heros for going into work sick though. They think if they work through it, everyone else should. Ya no, some people can't handle colds/flus as well as them, and they'll be quick to judge like this co-worker did to me.

my boss asked for a doctor's note when i called in because i couldn't move my cramps were so bad. literally asking god to let me throw up or die. my dad was so worried he kept telling me they had morphine at the hopsital, took me there once too. sometimes my period hits me HARD. my co-workers just don't understand. one time at work i did throw up from cramps and they still didn't let me go home. but then again i work for a nameless canadian corporation grocery store chain...

Haha I'm not afraid to put down the 'nameless canadian corporation grocery store chain' called LOBLAWS! (Extra Foods really) I worked there and the boss did a TERRIBLE job and she was sooo bad with paying people. Everything she did she blamed on us - maybe it was 'our fault' that the paperwork didn't go through, bla bla.. And then my friend who also worked there got appendicitis and had to have her appendix removed. She asked for time off and I guess the rest of the cashiers didn't like the fact that they had to pick up the slack - and the head cashier wouldn't give her the time off. I got so fed up with the crap that the store was giving me that I told them, very nicely, where to go.

OMG! Suck it up people, if you don't speak up for yourself, how are we to get anything accomplished. I would so just tell them straight up because if you don't and you end up sick you have no one to blame by not telling them yourself. I have 4 kids to worry about and I work in a Hospital, needless to say we take it very seriously here, and we don't face that problem too often. But what other people need to think of when deciding to come in to work sick, is that you may live through it, but children, seniors and infants might not live through it.
Did they ever think of that instead of the paycheck?

If an employer forces someone to go home sick, and the employee says its just 'allergies', would the employer then be discriminating? As a manager, I'm willing to test that boundary; morale is important, and morale stinks when everyone perceives an impending infection.
If you work in an office, there's a pretty good chance the world won't end if you stay home sick. If you think you're that critical, get over yourself and train someone to share your duties.
