No Love Lost for Telemarketers!

Most nights between 7:00pm and 8:00pm I settle in with my laptop to get a little writing done. Night time is my prime writing time. It's quiet and my creative juices get flowing, but lately putting fingers to keyboard has been interrupted by the dreaded telemarketer on numerous occasions. Even tonight as I write this blog I've had a call to let me know that I have won an all-inclusive vacation to Las Vegas for four nights, no strings attached. As if.
Surprisingly, that isn't the only call I've had this week claiming that I am the recipient of a free vacation. Heck, I could be on a plane to Tahiti this Sunday according to the raspy voiced drone on the other end of the line. How I managed to get on a calling list for free vacations, I don't know. Normally I'm cautious about giving out my information for the chance to win anything, but I must have ignored my own rule sometime is recent history. It's not just the free vacation people calling me at weird hours. Judging by the number of calls that I receive from window companies, they are certain that all my windows need replacing or adjusting, at a deeply discounted price, no less. While I don't disagree with them, I rent - and live in a high rise apartment so they are hitting up the wrong woman for business.
My favourite has to be Boris from the Moving Company. Does anyone else get this guy? I'm not even sure it's a real company. It sounds so phony I chuckle when they call, but then promptly hang-up.
But my calls from Boris may be short lived. Yesterday registration with the Canadian Radio and Telecommunication Commission's National Do Not Call List became available to Canadians. Say bye-bye to Boris! People may register their phone numbers to stop pesky calls from telemarketers. There are some exceptions from the list such as polling companies, registered charities, political parties, newspapers selling subscriptions, and organizations where you already have an existing business relationship. If you do register for the list, it may take up to thirty days before you are removed off some calling list.
So, I wait. Hopefully in a month my writing time will once again be uninterrupted!
