It was by chance that on a snowy day in early December, my local brunch eatery hosted an arts fair thingy. My brunch buddy wanted to check it out, so I obliged. Among the cutesy felt purses and crafty light switch covers, I found my favourite necklace: a dainty silver scissors charm. It’s guaranteed on the days that I wear my scissors pendant, a stranger will ask about it. Are you a hairdresser? A seamstress? What does that mean? What’s that for? Some simply say that they like it.
Toronto artist Allison Wells is responsible for the design and she also crafts bird-in-a-cage pendants, sheep, birds and people. If you’re looking for a gift to buy me, I love the bird and animal necklaces. The scissor theme is continued in pins and earrings. A sterling silver scissor necklace can be ordered on Allison’s website, papersnake.ca (pictured above) for $35 plus $10 for shipping and handling. If you live in Toronto or Montreal, check here for stores that sell her jewellery.
