Guilty Wedding Pleasures
Champagne and truffles flown in from France, exquisite Swiss chocolate, or a serenade by a famous singer. What is your guilty pleasure?
Most brides and grooms have a wedding budget and of course, do their best to stick to it, but sometimes, more often than not, there is a bit of negotiating and couples take some of the budget from one place to make up for splurging somewhere else. The splurged item may not be a necessary component in the planning of the wedding, but rather, it serves as a guilty pleasure that makes the wedding more personalized and unique.
In honour of slice.ca’s Guilty Pleasures month, let’s look at some guilty pleasures that some of my former brides and grooms indulged in.
Christian Louboutin Shoes:
These shoes can pay for your limo or another major item on your wedding budget, but sporting these on your feet will make you feel like the uber-glamorous and special bride you are. Make sure you show it off! My bride, Deborah, danced all night in these shoes and she felt magnificent doing so!
Designer Wedding Dress:
You have set a budget for your wedding dress and have not found the one
that fits your budget and sets off those “THIS IS THE DRESS!” bells.
Designer wedding dresses can cost over $10,000 or more and although you
weren’t expecting to spend so much on a dress you'll wear for only one
day, perhaps you're changing your mind and are considering playing with
the wedding budget, taking away from one category to help increase the
wedding dress budget.
Your wedding dress will be on you the entire day and forever in your
photos, so some brides make the dress a priority since it can make them
feel like the most beautiful bride in the world. This feeling will
surely shine through in the happy eyes and smiles in all your photos and
all day long on your special day.
Celebrity DJ:
Wedding DJ’s who play "YMCA," "Holiday," and "Celebration" just don’t do it for you. You're serious party people and so are your friends. DJs and MCs from wedding entertainment companies may seem too cookie-cutter and sometimes too cheesy for most couples. The solution? Couples are now splurging on well-known club and celebrity DJs who have established names around the world. These DJs fees are significantly higher, but the level of energy and club-feel that these people bring are worth the indulgence if you're people who love to party and have friends who are into serious partying as well.
DJ Toddy Flores, one of Montreal’s finest club DJs and international DJ, who's played all over Canada, the U.S., and Europe, is a DJ in high demand for many of the weddings I plan in Montreal. The feeling that a club DJ brings to a wedding is not the typical games and usual wedding songs kind of party, but with a club DJ, your guests have an incredible time, feeling like they're not only at a wedding, but that they're having an incredible night out partying.
Chocolate:
Let’s face it, most of us are chocoholics. Some of us are connoisseurs of chocolate and consume only the good stuff. Chocolate petit fours, chocolate pastries, and chocolate fountains. After meeting a new couple that I worked for, I understood very well their mutual love for chocolate. Remembering a midnight chocolate buffet I indulged in once on a cruise ship, I suggested an all- and only-chocolate midnight sweet table. From truffles to cakes, mousses, and hard chocolate, the guests were blown away from this chocolate dream presented to them. Kick it up a notch and have a Godiva chocolate fountain to dip your fruit and cookies in! Yum!
Whatever your guilty pleasures are, your wedding day is definitely the perfect excuse to indulge and make it special. Enjoy!
