Suddenly Spring: You've Got It In The Bag
The only thing worse than carrying around my winter-weary, utilitarian leather purse is the look of it on the inside. It’s a disaster zone: scrunched up receipts, lip glosses I’ve long decided are fugly, loose change, an old magazine, and a million orphaned bobby pins.
I’ve carried this staple on-and-off throughout the season, but what am I going to do now that the weather’s shifting? Well, today I have some spring 2011 bag trends for you right… about… here… (oh, and a very special giveaway, too!).
Colour your world girls, colour your world! It’s the story of the season for fashion overall, and purses are no exception to this rule. Colour-blocked bags are very hot at the moment, as are neon-brights paired with neutral tan, or even white.
The way to work a colourful bag is to act as though it’s your everyday carryall. Don’t think about it too hard, just pair it with whatever you’re wearing—whether dressed up or dressed down. Plus, a colourful satchel is a great way to take a boring outfit to the next level without even trying all that much.
Tassels are making a comeback, but not in a gigantic, in-your-face kind of way, but as a more subtle adornment on a smaller-sized bag. It is admittedly a little hippie dippy, but think of how they’ll swing and sway along with your step as you sashay down the street this season. You can’t catch a fish without a little bait ladies ;)
You’re probably used to jamming your evening necessities into a clutch-sized purse, but could you do it for your daily haul as well? Well, you better try because the day clutch is here to stay, whether in soft leathers, or more structured styles. The clutch, of course, is all about editing; lipstick, wallet, keys, credit card and fini. All that other stuff? Get your man to carry it, lol.
No matter the trends, no spring shall pass without a tote of some ilk or stripe. This isn’t just my personal opinion, it is dictated by the fashion gods themselves (I think). At any rate, this year is all about the elongated tote bag. Think long and tall (and rich and handsome… sorry, my mind wanders). This new shape is just fine by me as I like to stuff my totes with magazines anyway, so no creasing or bending necessary. Glossy addicts rejoice!
