A Royal Wedding Sparks Sapphire Loving

Just a day after Prince William proposed to his longtime love Kate Middleton with his mother's amazing 18-carat blue sapphire and diamond ring was the demand for replicas already in full force.
When his mother Princess Diana first wore this ring at the announcement of her engagement to Prince Charles, there was the same kind of demand from women around the world wanting replicas.
The New York's Natural Sapphire Co. is reporting they were in a "frenzy" with the demand for replicas that came in only hours after the Prince announced his engagement.
The late Princess Diana's ring is no doubt stunning, and yet not the traditional diamond-only engagement ring we so often see. A little Googling on the web will tell you that it's quite customary with Royals to give a precious gemstone like a ruby, emerald or sapphire. And these royal engagement rings no doubt cast an alternative light on the traditional diamond-only tradition.
I love the idea of a sapphire engagement ring for myself, and don't think men should feel so much pressure to stick to the traditional confines of a diamond ring.
So, what do you fancy best for your engagement ring? Has seeing Diana's ring, now Kate's, made you rethink what you'd want? Or, for the fellas, has it made you rethink what you'd buy your leading lady?
