Ask An Expert: Jane, When Should We Have Our Engagement Party?
Q: Hi Jane! We’ve just gotten engaged and we were wondering if we should have an engagement party. If so how many people do we invite, how long after the engagement do you host an engagement party. (Oct 2010- engagement, I was thinking Feb 2011 to have the party….is that too late? Please help us!! ~ ND
A: Congratulations upon your engagement!
Your family and friends will be thrilled to receive your wonderful news! It's a time for celebration and yes, it is appropriate to have a party. It's your choice whether its a small intimate affair for just immediate family or it can be a gathering of everyone who you would intend to invite to your wedding.
Usually the party is quite soon after the engagement announcement. Why not incorporate the party with a Christmas family party?
If you would like to have the party in February, send out "Save The Date' cards asap! That way people will know that there is to be an engagement party, but at a later date. Enjoy!
