Ask An Expert: Maria, I Need To Lose 5 Lbs Before A Wedding!
Q: I have a wedding in 3 weeks that I'm trying to look great for. I just want to lose 5 lbs. I'm working out, moderately, and I recently just decided to cut down on my carbs a little bit to help things along. I still eat toast in the morning or a banana, a bowl of all-bran, and then lots of veggies and protein in the afternoon and evening, along with fruit. I'm not overweight; my BMI is between 21-22. But I just wanted to shed 5lbs from my 5ft 4in frame. Thanks, Angela
A: Its hard to say why your weight increased after cutting back not only the carbohydrates, but what sounds like overall calories. Many people swear by the 'low carb' diet for weight loss, but i've had clients who have gained weight while following this style of eating, because they were not used to eating as much protein and fat, even though their choice for fat was healthy-ie. olive oil, etc.
The best bet is to do what works best for your body, and listen to your body. Eat until you feel satisfied, not 'full' and spread your meals throughout the day. Watch out for healthy higher fat foods-nuts, cheese, etc and don't eat too late.
Last but not least, continue being active. These tips can help you shed a couple extra pounds over the next few weeks for your wedding!
