Ask An Expert: Tommy, I Need To Lose Weight Before A Wedding!
Q: Hi Tommy, I need your help. I need to lose 20 pounds by december! and that's it. My name is sibat and I live in toronto. I am 24 years old and i weight about 143 pounds at the moment. I am 5 feet 3 inches in height. I have my cousin's wedding coming up in december. so by then, I need all these love handles gone. my problem is, I need the encouragement and I need to be under pressure. If you could just advice me on some exercises that I could do at home and/or at the gym, I'd really appreciate it.
A: Thank you for your question Sibat, let’s see what we can do in order that you hit your goals in stride! Training wise, I don’t know what you’ve done up until this point, but even if you are just starting out, you can definitely reach your goal...
If you really want to, and are willing to put in some hard work. Even though you have a target event in December, I would urge you to think of this as a chance to start a lifestyle change that will see you enjoying the benefits of health and fitness for years to come. If you look at it that way there is a better likelihood that your results will be permanent. You will feel healthier, stronger, and it will mark the beginning of a whole new you! Although your “love handles” are your problem area, you will want to train your entire body as a whole, because “spot reduction” is a myth.
A full body approach to losing your weight will include cardiovascular activity, along with a following a proper meal plan. You can’t have one without the other so. If you feel you need to be “under pressure”, then I would recommend that you join a Bootcamp or hire a trainer. You don’t want to be spinning your wheels with exercises that are not going to get you the goals you desire. If you invest in yourself and focus on the task at hand, you will be one step closer to your goals, so do it right the first time.
As far as exercises, choose as many compound (using more than 1 muscle group) exercises as possible; such as a Burpee, 1 arm rows, and squat presses. To target your self professed problem areas like the “love handles” and core, choose exercises like the jack knife, side crunches, side planks, mountain climbers, and the plank. You can still do some cardio within your resistance workouts, such as throwing in some burst exercises such as sprints, high knee running, and skipping you will also stimulate your abdominals and burn even more calories. Training hard alone will not yield you the results that you want, so you better get ready to make some big changes in your lifestyle to make the weight loss permanent. Don’t let a poor diet spoil your hard work in the gym or field of play.
The sooner you start, the better off you will be ...so don’t procrastinate, just get after it.
I also have some E-Books available at http://www.tommyeurope.tv/ so that you won’t have to do any guesswork with your workouts or your meal plan. I can’t wait to hear about the wedding and how fabulous you are going to look, but before you get to December you’ve got some sweating and panting to get to.
Play safe and have fun,
