Ask an Expert: Brad, Our Dogs are Spoiled Children!
Q: I have 3 American Cocker Spaniels. They are all related, dad, mum and son. They love to sleep with us and only eat if we hand feed them. They are my husband's children. They were in the house before me. What shall I do to change their awful habits?
A: Lonely hearts often don't care for anything other then themselves and their feelings. My suggestion to you is address this issue straight on with your husband. Dogs are not children in any way,shape or form.
The dogs did not come into this world being spoiled by your husband. Send the dogs out of the master bedroom and take your bed back. Put the dogs in crates or buy them dog beds and have them sleep either on the floor in your room or send them else where in the house to sleep. I am sure your husband will not take too kindly to this, but you really need to look at what you are missing out on in your relationship.
As far as eating from your hand, this is again another very pathetic way to be feeding dogs and treating them as if they are not capable to eat from a dog dish. Put the food in three separate dishes, for each dog, and put them on the ground and remove them after 15 minutes. Repeat at next meal time. Good luck!
