Foods to Keep You Looking Hot

Top 10: Foods to keep you looking hot
Eat and be Pretty

Ever notice that when you eat well, you look better? It’s not just your imagination, eating certain foods can help make your skin look clearer, your hair shinier and your nails stronger. So get in touch with your inner health nut, and get on your way to becoming even more gorgeous, from the outside in.

1. Salmon

Love sushi? You’re in luck: those yummy salmon sushi rolls are packed with blessed little nutrients called omega-3s. They boost circulation and fight off inflammation, giving your skin that unmistakable J. Lo glow. They’ll also feed your nails and help keep them strong.

2. Dark chocolate

When word got out about chocolate having health benefits, women around the world got down on their knees to praise the almighty power. And it’s not just good for the heart. Dark chocolate’s ability to fight off the bad guys called free radicals may help prevent wrinkles. That’s one more good reason not to feel guilty when you indulge.

3. Strawberries

These lovely little red gems are loaded with vitamin C, which helps maintain collagen. That’s good because collagen is the super-important support system underneath your skin which plumps it up. Fill up on citrus and broccoli, along with strawberries to get your healthy dose.

4. Sweet potatoes

When it comes to superpower foods, it’s all about colour. The vibrant orange hue of these tasty root veggies tells you they’re rich in the antioxidant beta-carotene, which helps to bring that new baby-soft skin to the surface.

5. Cheese

Need more reasons to eat cheese? Probably not, but if you do, you should know that while you’re treating yourself to that Brie, you’re doing your teeth a favor. The calcium in cheese and dairy products help maintain tooth enamel. What’s more, getting enough calcium is key to avoiding the not-so-attractive gum disease.

6. Sunflower Seeds

Not only are they a tasty snack, these little wonders are filled with vitamin E, which helps maintain your body’s tissues. As an antioxidant, vitamin E works hard to protect cells and combat the signs of aging.

7. Oysters

We’ve all heard that oysters can make you feel frisky, but did you know they can also improve your skin? Oysters are loaded with zinc, which is like the motivational speaker in your body that tells new cells to form. Too little zinc in your diet can make it tough for your skin to heal itself, leading to the dreaded acne.

8. Whole grains with iron

If you’ve heard from your doctor that your iron is a little low and didn’t think too much of it, keep in mind that your hair and nails could be suffering the consequences. Found in whole wheat bread and pasta and lean meats, iron is a nutrient powerhouse that helps fortify your nails and skin. If that doesn’t convince you, consider this: a deficiency in iron could cause your hair to thin or even fall out. Yikes!

9. Brazil nuts

Eat a handful of these rich and buttery nuts and you could do your skin some good. Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, a mineral that acts like a natural sunblock, protecting your skin against harmful UV rays. Since the sun is skin enemy number one, that’ll help delay the signs of aging for at least a little while, and we need all the help we can get!

10. Olive oil

If you’re trying to eat well, you might be tempted to slash all fats from your diet, but think again: some fats are actually good for us, and vital for healthy skin. Good fats in olive oil help to moisturize your skin from the inside out. What’s more, fat helps your body absorb the anti-aging wunderkind vitamin A.

Comments:

People should make healthy food less expensive, they encourage people to eat it, then say..but they are more expensive! Do you want us to eat healthy or not!?

AMEN! Society is so backwards.

Tell it sister!

Yes, this is one of the ironies of Canada's Health Care Program.

The other day, I a saw a young couple shopping. In their basket was Freshie, Potato Chips, you get the idea. All of this stuff is cheap and I understood why they were eating it.

The problem is, and I thought it at the time, that these people will end up, if they aren't already, being a strain on our Health Care system.

Why don't our politicians look at controlling prices so that our Health Care System won't be strained?

I agree, Healthy food is more expensive. Maybe not all but a good majority of it is, Like strawberries if it's not season, Olive oil well thats just outragous, Salmon I love salmon but have u seen the price of it. Chips, I can get a big bag for $.99, try finding a can of peanuts for $.99...For a single person eating healthy may not seem that expensive but when you have a family it's outragous........

... where's your protein? Fruits and veggies are cheap and healthy on their own but don't confuse them for a balanced healthy diet.
My suggestion is to not deprive yourself of anything, but to learn moderation, when I have chips or ice cream or any of these things, I put them into a small dish. It'll hold maybe 10-12 chips, or a half cup of ice cream I still get to enjoy it, in fact I think appreciate the flavor even more.

You ca get cheap veggies and meat at a local stand or market for way cheaper than a grocery store. You can always try growing your own stuff if you have a backyard@@

amen to that. the amount that people spend on their fast food and everything is overwhelming. if you erase all of that, you will have more than enough money for health foods.

What about foods to help my face? I didn't get acne until after high school. I'm turning 24 this fall, and I'm still fighting it. I've tried a multitude of scrubs, wipes, masks, peels, over the counter, as seen on TV, ordered from AVON, even changed my diet. I'm still spotty! Now as I get older the spots are starting to leave evidence behind. Are there any foods anyone can recommend that may help?

Food, no, however ProActiv works really well. If you've tried everything and nothing works, try it.

Healthy food isn't just about commitment. It IS about money too. I'm sure we'd all love to buy all those natural organic foods, if they didn't cost an arm and a leg.
People aren't stupid; they know chips aren't healthy. I know people who buy the healthy stuff and then realize they can't keep up, so they fall back to the fast food and the other not so healthy dietary choices.

PS: What is spectro gel? I use clindoxyl gel. Is that tehs ame?

Watch how many people will disagree with me but, dairy products are not good for you cheese should not be on there.

a comment was made on the message board about healthy foog being more expensive. I have the same problem at my college I am attending. For just a plain old veggie wrap with a smingen of meat cost about 6-8$. But, in the same room is a Harvey's and you can get a burger, fries and a drink for 5-6 dollars. what do you think a cheap college student will choose?? Yet they complain about our poor eating habits!!! so why are commercial restaurants allowed in the schools?

I noticed a few comments about clearing acne. How about facial blotches? My cheeks and now my forehead look like I'm constantly embarrased about something. My mother thinks it's a rash. Any product suggestions?

Healthy foods are definitely more expensive than junk. And yes, Nicole, I disagree about dairy being bad. 3 servings of yogourt/day will help women lose more weight - especially in the tummy area. Have you heard of the ice cream diet? Not that I've tried it myself but it's worked for others. And if dairy is so bad, why do our bones need it so we don't fall down and break them when we're seniors?

Well if you think that dairy is bad for you then more power to you. But, don't come crawling to me when osteoporosis kicks in and your too weak to walk.

Also I think that eating healthy is not that expensive. Someone raised an argument that they can get chips for 99 cents and i would like to say that chips are not very filling. Get an apple instead and you'll be so much happier...in the long run at least.

Don't try to cure facial problems with any quick fixes, tingly lotions or anything other than the mildest cleansers and moisturizers.

It usually takes 2 years to cure a skin inflammation.

This list is actually excellent, especially for including Brazil Nuts, but it does omit Almond Butter, similar, but not quite the same.

Also: throw in coconut oil, hummous, and Soy Garden Earth Balance.

Good luck!
