Episode 3029: Lucy and Greg
Ah, Lucy and Greg! A modern day Beauty and the Beast. These two had a lot of problems and, actually, most of them stemmed from Lucy’s previous marriage. You see, Lucy got married when she was a teen and her husband was a very strong and dominant personality. Lucy spent years being submissive and once she got divorced she vowed that in her next marriage, she would wear the pants.
But Lucy’s power and control got out of control. She bullied Greg: he wasn’t allowed in her sewing room; he had to shave, cut his hair, and clip his toenails in the garage; he waited for her for hours; and, as you saw, never, ever gave him a compliment!
When I showed up on evidence day, I had my work cut out for me. Lucy giggled and laughed through most of the evidence. I think she was more interested in seeing herself on tape than listening to what I had to say. At one point, I had really had enough and threatened to pack up and walk away. That was when the penny dropped for Lucy. She finally started to listen and she realized that her marital problems were no laughing matter. Once that happened, Lucy quieted down, Greg started to speak up, and things started to change almost immediately.
Lucy and Greg were good sports about the challenges: Greg and his two left feet managed to lead Lucy in the dancing challenge, and Lucy, for all her complaining, stuck to her limited wardrobe. Lucy and Greg only spent a week on their challenges but what a difference a week can make! Before, Lucy was standoffish and rejected affection from Greg, but during the “renew the woo” she couldn’t keep her hands off him. I don’t think the cigars were the only thing smoking that night!
