At The End Of My Leash

Brad's Blog - Episode 5060: Hairy Home Wreckers

Sarah and Lee had a very interesting dynamic, with a lack of understanding of what each person needs in the relationship as well as the divide the dog is being blamed for.

It was never the dog’s intention to be a jerk or steal away love and affection from Sarah. Misguided actions blended in a tidal wave of BS in the personal relationship. Guilt, honour, affection, love—all took on its own agenda, an agenda that will end sad, ugly, and leave emotional scars.

Is Lee a lost soul? Is Sarah unrealistic in what she desires? Is the dog supposed to be human?

Lee is not lost but he certainly needs to be pulled back into a reality he can identify with and embrace so his life partner will feel loved. But this will be a long process. Sarah has needs, those needs are real, not over the top. She desires simple pleasures but the tangled emotions of Lee and the dog will need some time to sort out. If success is found in this tangled mess then a happy ending will prevail.

Lee was inspirational, making these changes and looking deep within himself as a person and sorting out his priorities. His journey was not as simple as turning over a new leaf. He needed Sarah’s support in order to find balance. Sarah, as with most women, was the backbone and pillar of the relationship. Her voice needed to be heard in actions. Lee stepped down from his male ego role and accepted his wife as an equal. The dog is an extension of their success.

This is a beautiful episode, with a real-life prince and princess.

Brad ;-)

Comments:

I LOVED THIS EPISODE. it was amazing. and it was the perfect example of just how effective Brad can be when the family co-operate with his instructions. perfect.
I have seen good episodes, but nothing as revolutionary as this one. I sympathize with Lee; I'm very emotionally dependent on my dogs, too. I can understand how he must have felt being "stripped" of the dogs. yet he followed the instructions, showing his commitment to fixing his family. however, I live only with my dogs, and I'm not using them as an excuse to shut out anyone.
Sarah floored me. the effort she put into those 2 dogs was out of this world; I bet Brad has never seen anything like it.
there was nothing "jarring" to this episode. it could have been scripted, as, "the ultimate Brad Pattison training video".
I can't say anything more about this show; except that I hope that all the families who work with Brad will watch it, and see just what is expected, and what can be accomplished. 10 out of 10.

hey, where are all the Brad-bashers? not that I miss them, but could it be that they have for once NOTHING to say?
perfection is a difficult thing to question, or criticize, isn't it?

IS IT TRUE THAT WHEN YOU ABUSE A DOG IT WILL BITE OR HURT YOU? AND WHEN YOU USE A CHOKER CAN THAT PISS THE DOG OFF AND MAKE IT BITE YOU?

have you been to the spca latley and seen all the problem dogs that people throw away because they have not effectivly trained them as puppies and now cant handel the out of control dogs that they have created? THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF CRUELTY NOT brads choke collar and methods.

Lora, what are you talking about? there is nothing in this episode even remotely mentioning a choke collar.
yes, if you abuse a dog, it is much more likely to turn out dangereous than if you treat it well. just like a child. but that was not part of this episode, so your questions are confusing me.
Brad does NOT use or ENDORSE choke collars, prong collars, shock collars, harnesses, or haltis. he uses exclusivey a martingale collar. when this collar is properly fitted (and that matters), it does not choke the dog when it tugs. the way it works is that there is a quick tug, and an instant release. I've seen them in action; they work perfectly. the last thing they are is cruel.
Stephanie, I agree. if people would be responsible enough to properly train (and sterilize) their pet dogs, the shelters would be empty, and Brad would basically be out of work. but people DON'T train their puppies or sterilize them, so the shelters will continue to be full of unwanted, difficult dogs, and Brad has lifetime job security.

Hey Folks, a bit of caution when responding. In Lora's post, all I read is a question.

Let us Brad supporters not be so defensive that we read things into others posts. The responses are defensive and even a little hostile. We won't be able to bring people around in this manner.

So Lora, yes abusing a dog can cause it to be aggressive and/or fearful - both of which can lead it to biting. As for choke collars or ANY collar - it is the manner in which you use it. Continuous, irrational yanking, jerking, snapping (even a martingale) confuses a dog and sends the message you don't know what you're doing. So the dog could, again, become fearful which may lead to biting.

Correcting a dog is about reading its body language, having the right timing and using the right intensity. This way the dog clearly understands what you want it to do.

I think the caps lock was an indication that Lora was maybe being a bit aggressive with us. she didn't seem to be posing a question about Brad at all.
I try very hard never to be aggressive when I answer a question on her, because if you look around, you'll see that there are some people who go after me. so I don't give them any ammunition. I certainly didn't mean any hostility to Lora, I was responding to the question in what I thought was the best way for this venue.

CanadianFreeSpirit & Pat-A.

Have you noticed that you two are about the only 2 Brad fans that even read this site?

There are no more Brad bashers because no one watches the show anymore.

I am glad to see Brad has such a large fan base, if it wans't for you 2 fans where would he be.

Sorry I am trying not to offend but I think after his last year he has really proven to be some what of a jerk and people are turning him off or simply watching for entertainment only.

I feel that love, respect and consistancy is the only training skills you will ever need. Most people seem to over do it.

Have you noticed that....

Hi Have you noticed....

I have to laugh.

How could I notice that CFS and I are the only ones who read this site?

It's a bit puzzling that you should ask such a question when obviously you've taken the time to read and even taken more time to make a post.

Kinda silly.

maybe you haven't noticed, but there have been a lot of other things going on in the world. peoples' attention is on marriages exploding, and celebrity deaths.
also it's summer in North America, and a lot of people are busy with other things like, vacations, and spending time outside with their families.
as for Brads fan base, if you check out his facebook page, there are about 10,000 people on it.
how are YOU doing with your fan base, HYNT?
I must say however, that I don't miss the Brad-bashers, although I do love to take them on. their arguments all just fall apart when you add a little logic.
one of the other problems Brad has, is that Slice doesn't really advertise his show, and you don't know when new episodes are going to be on. every Sunday, I scan through the entire weeks programming and write down days and times. that's not Brads fault; that's Slice not promoting him properly. I see about 20 commercials for "The last 10 lbs boot camp" to every 1 I ever see for Brad. and since Brad makes me feel much better about myself, I'd rather watch him than that other show.

Dear CFS - Take it easy. It's becoming a turn-off.

And I mean that in the most gentle and kind way.

Just settle down - you said on other blogs just to ignore the bashers. Listen to your own advice.

Maybe the bashers are also busy paying attention to stupidity like marriages exploding and celebrity deaths.

Good afternoon,

I would like to put in my two bits, yes I watch the show once and a while and yes once and a while I put a blog up.

And yes I still have time to spend with my pets.

To be quite honest every time I try to say how I feel positive or negative, Canadian Free Spirit and some other folks can't wait to put in her 2 bits. You would think she/they are Brad's Body Gaurds.

I have been on the show and I have had first hand experiance so I think you should listen to my view. Or don't I don't care I am hear to state my experiance.

I mean don't you think if I had a bad experiance I should be able say that ???? and if I found somethings worked I should be able to say that???

The button on this blog says to make a comment and that is what everyone is doing MAKING A COMMENT

I think Brad should be responding to these blogs and he is not you know why??? I would like to know. It seems a lot of people on this blog and on his Facebook are asking for help but you never see Brad answering ???? why is that.

Maybe he has better things to do.

Would sure like to start seeing other peoples opinions then the same 2 all the time.

we have 2 shih tzu's that we regularly take outside( about every 2 hours) and yet a few times a week, we find they have made a mess downstairs. it's hard to do much after the fact, especially since we don't know which one is responsible. we've watched many episodes, but can't catch exactly what brad's method is to overcome this bad habit. we'd really appreciate some advice or direction to an episode that really addresses this problem!!!

People who don't like Brads approach are probablyy the same spineless wonders who have problems with their own dogs. His methods work, straight up. Maybe these people should run for political office where being a wallflower is expected and accepted. They train their dogs to rollover and play dead just like our politicians.

What an irresponsible and dangerous stunt. For his own gratification, Pattison could have killed this dog.

For his information, there are special harnesses made for rappelling, made specially so the dog doesn't slip out of them and fall into river like it happened in this episode.

Pattison clearly had no idea what he was doing and put this dog in danger.

I took the Street Safety course in Edmonton (taught by Sara K and Becka B). My mini dachshund was only 5 months old. Our class had @15 dogs in it; from pomeranians to a great dane.
My dog is proof that if you follow Brad's methods, even cat lovers will like dogs. I take Deuce to work with me in my hair salon every day and all of my clients love him.
The biggest problem people have with Brad's methods is that he teaches us that dogs are pets, not humans.

Now after reading some of the comments on this board, I believe this will land on deaf ears, but maybe Brad himself will read my comment and that is all I am really interested in.
I watch this show on occasion, having just rescued a small dog in June, I need guidance with understanding him. He is a wonderful addition to our family after our Lady passed away last year at 16.
I sometimes find Brad a little "off putting" but have found some of his advice helpful. But just like any advice, you take what works for you and leave the rest.
My concern or issue was with tethering this small dog up to be hoisted up a mountain ridge. Though I appreciate the importance of the trust exercise for the owners, there was definitely something that could have worked better for that poor traumatized dog.
Now before you try to give me a tongue lashing while you praise your Brad, remember, I am writing this in the hopes it will get to Brad. I tried the contact Brad link without any luck.
And please also try to remember, your comments will only be respected if you are respectful. I believe that some of these posters are coming from a good place but maybe forget this all important rule of life.
