Every year, CareerCast.com releases a report on what they consider to be the most and least stressful careers. The careers website looks at a variety of stress factors, such as hazards, working in the public eye, dealing with the public, physical demands and deadlines and then scores each job according to how stressful it is.

Here are 2017’s most and least stressful careers, according to CareerCast.com.

With a stress score of 48.18, taxi drivers have the ninth most stressful job. They work irregular hours and not only have to deal with the public but with traffic too.

Public relations executives are responsible for the image of a business, which in turn helps determine the financial success of that business. CareerCast.com gives this job a stress score of 48.50.

The decisions that senior corporate executives have to make can determine the success or failure of a business. Their job has a stress score of 48.56, according to CareerCast.com.

Newspaper reporters often have to cover stories that take an emotional toll and every day is a race to meet a deadline. Moreover, the growth outlook for this career is negative, contributing to its stress score of 49.90.

Event coordinators have to keep tabs on a multitude of little details, each of which can make or break an event. They work against tight deadlines and in the public eye as well, giving their job a stress score of 51.15.

With a stress score of 72.68, firefighters have the second most stressful job. They constantly have to be on high alert because a mistake can cause not only their own death but that of the people they’re trying to save.

It’s no surprise that enlisted military personnel would have an extremely stressful job, with a stress score of 72.74. They face injury or death every day, usually in war zones far from the familiarity of home.

Turning to the least stressful jobs: With a stress score of 10.31, medical laboratory technicians have the tenth least stressful job for 2017, according to CareerCast.com. They perform medical tests such as blood tests, which doctors can then use to diagnose and treat diseases.

This job is low risk and diagnostic medical sonographers often get to share in the joy of watching a new life developing. This career also has a great positive growth outlook.
