Let’s start with our home and native land. One of Canada’s top fatty foods hail from la belle province: poutine. French fries on their own are not healthy for you, but top it with high-fat cheese curds and then douse it all in a salty gravy? That takes this pile of fries to new levels of fattiness.

There’s so much butter in French cuisine, and a bowl of aligot is no exception. It’s a savoury whipped concoction that includes mashed potatoes, butter, cream, garlic and cheese—essentially all of the fatty, savoury food you crave.

You can find churros nowadays in most cities—these fried lengths of dough originate from Spain. Not only are these doughnuts fried, but then they’re dipped in sugar and cinnamon and then it’s customary to dip them in chocolate. Plus, they’re often eaten for breakfast in Spain. In 2012, Nutella was slammed with a class-action lawsuit that resulted in them paying out millions to parents for suggesting the spread was a healthy choice. But this chocolate-hazelnut spread is high in fat (in two tablespoons, you’ll get 110 calories from fat alone!). Make it even fattier as they do in France by putting it in between a crepe that’s been fried in butter.

You may have noticed a key cooking method amongst many of these fatty foods on this list: deep frying. In India, one of their fattiest foods is jalebi—deep fried dough that’s then given a sweet bath in syrup. Your dentist will not approve.

The U.S. and in particular the South is not known for its healthy cuisine. One of the dishes its known for boasts an enormous amount of fat: chicken-fried steak. It includes a steak that’s been pounded thin, dipped in batter and fried and then topped with a creamy, salty gravy. You might want a defibrillator on hand just in case when eating this.
