Fashion Fails: Worst Celebrity Looks of the Week

The only thing that brings me any Glee from this outfit is the clutch: it’s the perfect punchy, geometric extra to wear with an all-white look. But the top half of this, being one part lace and one part classic collared shirt, is a bit of a mess and looks ill fitting. Had it been all lace, and better tailored to the petite powerhouse, there would have been a better balance of ladylike and menswear-inspired elements.

Here’s another case of two rights making a wrong: the striped knit top and printed A-line skirt on the Saturday Night Live cast member are lovely on their own but terrible together. With this skirt, a change of colour and shape in the top would be an easy fix. Rather than stark black and white on a boxy knit, I’d look for stripes in white and navy (to lighten everything up) and a slimmer fit top (to balance the fullness of the skirt).

The former Glee star made great choices with the individual pieces of this outfit, but they don’t come together well. The booties cut off the line of her legs, and the graphic black and white design is a heavy contrast to the cute houndstooth dress. I’d save the boots to wear with skinny jeans, and lighten up the look of the dress with a strappy heel.

It’s become clear that capes are a signature style for the Game of Thrones star, and there’s nothing wrong with that because she certainly has the stature to pull them off. I just wish they weren’t so all encompassing. This one could benefit from a little less fabric, and more open neckline. And while I’m not over the moon about the asymmetrical hem, I do love that it shows off her legs.

Call me crazy but I really don’t like the proportions of this outfit. For anyone on the petite side, which is 5’ 3” and under, this combination of long jacket and tall boots has a shortening effect. I’d swap the oversize blazer for a cropped jacket and trade in the knee-high boots for an ankle length pair.

Even at a comedy roast you want to be funny, not dress funny. This metallic dress looks like a cheap skater costume, and don’t even get me started on the matching bow on the dog. The silhouette is good, but a beaded fabric would have added a luxe quality.

At first glance, one thinks: Dress? Divine. And one is right, almost. The Insurgent star is radiant in the front half of this metallic frock. It’s what’s in back where the problem lies. That shadowy curtain behind Zoe’s legs isn’t her flowing mane – it’s a cape-y add on of black billowing fabric that hovers inches above the ground. Had it been a floor sweeping length the detail may have made more sense, and come across as a dramatic element. As is, it just messes with perfection.

The former judge and dance show producer can still kill it on the dance floor, but her wardrobe needs help. While the combination of a jacket and dress will never go out of style everything here is straight out of the '80s, from the embellished jacket complete with shoulder pads to the ruched satin dress. I’d update with a tailored tuxedo-inspired blazer and simple LBD.

The leading lady is doing lots right here, what with the combination of a printed top and wide-legged trousers, and I’m especially captivated with her glasses–those are great frames! But the top could be tailored slightly to her advantage: a more open neckline, proper ¾-length sleeves and a shorter length hem would elongate Kathy from head to toe.

Not sure what’s more irksome on the actress: the conductor cap or the sloppy pant cuffs? Honestly, look at those puddles of fabric! Deleting both elements would be ideal, transforming this from costume-y to simply chic. And I’d trade in the bangles for a long pendant necklace, too.

Ashley was another Insurgent co-star to fall victim to the "let’s add one ugly detail to an otherwise stunning dress" phenom. That pile of silvery bows hogging the spotlight on her shoulder is trying real hard to detract from the fact that this flowing floral printed gown is otherwise gorgeous on her.

I like Shiri’s attempt at combining contrasting textures of knits and beadwork, I just wish their roles were reversed and there was more of one and less of the other. A high-waisted beaded mini skirt with a cropped knit top would have been my idea of a dynamic duo for this actress.

Modern updates are important in any woman’s wardrobe, especially if that woman is a star of a bygone era. This dress loses marks for its dated appearance. A sheath in a graphic print or bolder colour palette would have been a chic and contemporary choice for the Switched At Birth actress.

With her towering frame and striking features, The Game of Thrones actress could be a style star in the making. But she’ll have to do better than this because wearing what looks like a mini tank dress thrown over a scrap of mesh ain’t gonna land her on a best-dressed list any time soon. We already know she can pull off lavish looks, but even a simple LBD would have been a far better choice.

With such an airy dress, I get what Constance was going for with the earthy accessories. I just wish they were a little lighter in style and not so matchy in colour. Wedge sandals in chocolate brown and a light tan suede clutch would’ve been my choice.

Not a great week for Vanessa, but forget about the so-so dress for a moment and let’s talk about these shoes, shall we? Even the most fashion adept would be challenged by a chunky sole in a greige colour that covers the whole foot, and is with finished bows no less. A pair of white or silver laser cut heels would lighten things up dramatically and add a little sex appeal. I’m also advocating for a necklace or belt to take this dress out of the snooze zone.

In a ‘80s graphic print jacket, shell necklace, cut-off shorts and platform sneakers, the Swedish singer and rapper clearly has a one-of-a-kind style. I just wish it wasn’t so hard on the eyes. For starters, I’d trade the vintage topper for bright moto jacket and swap the chunky footwear for a sleek sneaker.

I have no idea what’s happening here because this look is straight-up crazy on the top, and stone cold chic on the bottom. The star clearly knows you can’t go wrong with a notched pencil skirt and everyone’s favourite two-strap heels. But why she would go so, so wrong with a completely sheer, ruched blouse is anyone’s guess. I’m pretty sure any other top would have been a better option.

Can a pair of bad sleeves take down a dress? Yes! The ringed effect on the sleeves adds width to her mid-section, right where one should aim to carve out a waist. As a sleeveless frock and with different shoes (think: black lace-up heels), this would have been quite striking on the actress.

Known for her love of colour, prints and whimsical details, the spirited designer who has been in the biz for decades deserves major kudos. But I can’t get over this striped frontal pocket. There is more than enough going on in this outfit thanks to the necklaces, boots and those yellow highlights.
