Ask an Expert: Renée Strauss on Summer Bridal Fashion

Summer is definitely the season for brides and to help resolve some of your bridal fashion dilemmas, Renée Strauss (host of Brides of Beverly Hills) answers your questions.

Guess These Movie Brides!

Summer is indeed wedding season and just like Winter Holiday Season it's never without its yearly romantic comedy release(s). Come to think of it, what is the latest wedding movie of 2011? I know there's Bridesmaids (loved it, btw) but I could have sworn there's one that followed... Love Wedding Marriage, is it? With Mandy Moore?

Ask an Expert: Harold Melvin's Top Bridal Trends

What's popular in bridal wear for 2012? There are many trends surfacing and resurfacing in bridal fashion this year, but have no fear ladies--I'm here to dissect each trend for you and guide you through the most important fashion choice of your life! A great starting point is to choose your wedding colours. Your colour choices will dictate the tone of your event as well as: the design of the invitations, flower choices, lighting and the shape, tone, and texture of your wedding dress. Try contrasting colours such as rich navy blue paired with bold fuchsia or mixing up warm jewel tones such as: emerald green, amethyst, azure blue, and warm yellows. Take "matching" out of your vocabulary and replace it with "contrast and compliment". Now that you've got your colours sorted out, let's move on to selecting the perfect dress!

Wedding Blog: 10 Things A Fall Bride Should Do During the Summer

I never imagined my wedding day as a little girl, nor gave any thought to being a bride. Those things belonged in that hazy future world of being "grown up." Now that I'm 33 and planning a fall wedding, I'm still not a gung-ho bride. Of course I want it to be fun and beautiful and romantic, but we're just not bothered by traditional details and are trying to stick to our relatively modest budget.

Wedding Blog: Buffet Vs Sit-Down Wedding Reception?

Buffet or sit-down dinner? This is a question that arises very often when my clients and I come to the planning stage of securing the venue and choosing the meal. There are such strong arguments for and against, for both sides.

Bride Blog: In Defense of Cash

It’s really hard to come out and say “please give me money”. All of my instincts tell me this is just plain wrong, but when you’re in a situation like mine (ie: moving in with someone who already has a house full of stuff), the last thing you want to do is create a gift registry and collect more objects. I, for one, do not need another toaster.

Ask An Expert: Jane, How Much Time Ahead Should I Plan My Wedding?

Q: Jane, I’ve just gotten engaged and already the questions are coming in about the wedding. How long in the future is a reasonable time to set a date for? We have no idea what we’re getting into and we’re totally “wedding virgins”. All we can tell you is that my parents want to foot the bill and we’re willing to pay for extras if necessary. There should be around 150 – 200 people (our best guesstimate) Please help!

Ask An Expert: Jane, Should I Do My Own Make-Up For My Wedding?

Jane, I was planning on doing my own make-up for my wedding, but the few brides I know, have already gone for a few make-up consultations with their artist. Am I making the right choice by doing my own, or should I spend the extra money and have a pro do it. I just don’t want to look my make-up to look too “caked on” and would love to look natural for my big day. Please help me!

Bride Blog: Gemstone Engagement Rings

When it comes to engagement rings, a diamond is a classic choice. We’ve all heard the “three months’ salary” rule, and that “a diamond is forever,” but the real story is that these statements, which are now accepted as fact, are nothing more than a (very successful) marketing campaign for Birks, a mega conglomerate that controls the diamond industry. Prior to this campaign, diamonds were the exception and gemstones were the norm.

Bride Blog: Affordable Wedding Dresses

I'm a firm believer that when it's your wedding, you get to do things your way. My dream wedding dress ("ever since I was a little girl") has always been either red or dark pink silk.

Ask An Expert: Jane, Should I Cut My Hair Before The Wedding?

Q: Jane, I am getting married in September and have been tempted to cut my long hair to go with a shorter do for the summer. The only worry I have is that my hair won’t look nice for my wedding. What do you think in your experience with brides?

I’m wearing a traditional bridal gown in white with a train (not too long of one though). I’m hoping you can help me with some advice on this.

Welcome to the new Bride Blog!

Something strange is happening to me. I’m having conversations about dresses and thinking about hair styles. I’m debating the relative benefits of votive candles vs. casually strewn rose petals. I’m turning into a girl. I’m also getting married. I don’t know which freaks me out more.

My husband and I are so appreciative, we want to let him know how thankful we are because we would have really had to struggle to come up with the money to go otherwise.

An Open Letter to Shower Organizers

Dear Ms. Organization, It's that time of year again! I know you're super busy planning the menu, writing out instructions for the games we're going to play, and gathering a series of memories to embarrass the bride with, but I write to you on behalf of the attendees to your event.

Do children belong at weddings?

There you were, just sipping your coffee, browsing the Internet, thinking you'd read the Family Friday blog. Little did you know of the drama, the angst, the veritable fever-pitch of a debate raging in thousands of homes around the world: should children attend weddings? You might or might not be surprised to hear that many people believe children and weddings don't mix (although pet dogs are apparently de rigeur).
