Wedding Planning Must-Do's

Congratulations! You are freshly engaged and ready to dive right into the wedding planning. Don’t let your excitement make you overlook some important "musts." Here are some important must-do’s to remember:

October Trend Report: Smooth Velvet

Every month here at slice.ca we report to you with our favourite happening trend in fashion, and our friends from HGTV.ca and FoodNetwork.ca get in on the fun as well. This month, we're talking smooth velvet. No, not the crushed velvet bodysuits of the '90s - which some of you may recall - but today's current trend of modern cuts of the smooth version of this fabric.

Get Inspired By Tori & Dean's Style for Fall

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott (of Tori and Dean: sTORIbook Weddings) are definitely Hollywood's ultimate fun couple and wherever they go, they always shine in style. Fashion and celebrity go hand-in-hand and these two stars effortlessly bring glamour and glitter to any look they rock. Tori’s sense of style can be summed up as a mix of boho-chic with a touch of casual elegance and Dean’s style is simple and casual, but always refined and distinguished. I’m all about Tori and Dean’s casual California style and the great thing about their looks are you don’t need to live in Cali., or Hollywood for that matter, to wear them. To help add some casual SoCal fashion love to your fall wardrobe, I’ve pulled together a couple of simple looks inspired by the popular wedding planning couple to help you and yours get their style this season.

Landing Strips & Shapes: What’s Your Cream of the Crop?

Guilty Pleasures: Indulge Me

If there's one thing we can confirm about human nature, it's our willingness to dive head first into guilty pleasures. For in that moment, when you decide to take that plunge, all is right with the world.

Ask an Expert: Harold Melvin's Guide to Guilty Pleasure Shopping

It's all about guilty pleasures this month, so I've prepared a list of my top luxury splurges. Once in a while, even the most budget conscious gal needs to loose control and treat herself with a shopping spree. I feel the best investments (when you don't have a boundless budget ) for the occasional spending spree are in shoes and accessories. These items keep you looking fresh, updated and powerful, while adding interest to your existing wardrobe. The trick to snapping up a lavish item without regret is to invest in top quality pieces that nod to a trend, but still have classic sensibility. Choosing wisely guarantees it will be an item you'll love to revisit season after season. So grab your wallets and lets indulge in one of the guiltiest pleasures of all--SHOPPING !!!!

Guilty Pleasures: No Price Too High for My Eyebrows!

My latest and greatest guilty pleasure is to pay $25 (plus tax & tip) to get my long and bushy eyebrows tweezed and trimmed to perfection! Now $25 may sound like a lot to dish out for one's brows, considering a bikini wax can cost less, but for this gal who has suffered through many eyebrow highs and lows in her lifetime, it is money well spent. (Plus where I go, if I buy 5 sessions for $100, it's really only $20 a pop instead!)

Ask an Expert: Harold Melvin's Secrets to Using Shapewear

In my daily work styling clients for red carpet appearances, it’s very important for my clients to hit the red carpet looking flawless. To help achieve perfection, I employ the use of foundation garments (or shapewear) to give my girls a smooth and lean appearance; a woman’s best accessory is a svelt physique.

Ask an Expert: Harold Melvin on Being Confident in Swimwear

Well ladies, here in New York we’re in the midst of a full on heat wave and I can’t think of anything else but lounging at the beach and frolicking in the surf. So I thought what better topic to discuss than swimsuits for every body type.

Ask an Expert: Harold Melvin's Top Bridal Trends

What's popular in bridal wear for 2012? There are many trends surfacing and resurfacing in bridal fashion this year, but have no fear ladies--I'm here to dissect each trend for you and guide you through the most important fashion choice of your life! A great starting point is to choose your wedding colours. Your colour choices will dictate the tone of your event as well as: the design of the invitations, flower choices, lighting and the shape, tone, and texture of your wedding dress. Try contrasting colours such as rich navy blue paired with bold fuchsia or mixing up warm jewel tones such as: emerald green, amethyst, azure blue, and warm yellows. Take "matching" out of your vocabulary and replace it with "contrast and compliment". Now that you've got your colours sorted out, let's move on to selecting the perfect dress!

Trend Report: Lace it up!

Lace is everywhere, even before the Royal Wedding and The Duchess of Cambridge turned heads in her stunning wedding gown. This classic fabric patterned with holes can be woven and worn in the most sophisticated of ways, yet worn wrong, the worst of ways.

Who's Ready for Summer?

You know when it's the dead of winter, and you suddenly remember the smell of freshly cut grass, the taste of watermelon, and the feeling of a warm sun on your face? Isn't it great that soon we won't need to rely on memory to enjoy those things? We can hardly wait!

Ask an Expert: Harold, how can I wear all white this summer?

Question: White makes me look washed out but is such a hot trend this summer. Any tips on how to wear it? Answer: Well, ladies, I have a few simple tried and true tricks to help you look killer in your summer whites!
