Surgery or Exercise?

Would you choose the hard work of exercise over the quick fix of surgery if cost were not an issue?

this is a toss up. on one hand, exercise has all-over benefits. on the other, surgery is the lovely, coveted quick-fix and fast road to confidence. to be honest, i'd probobly go with surgery.

To be honest, we don't really know our our body functions fully. Only recently did doctors start to view fat as an organ. In other words, liposuction is now sucking an organ our of one's body. It may be fast and easy, but exercise will raise your self confidence too.

I've been looking for the motivation to exercise for years now. I would take Plastic surgery if cost was not an issue.

i have been exercising for awhile now, have made it part of my daily routine :) and while it certainly makes me feel good, and very "zen like", ill be going with plastic surgery now even though i can't really afford it lol i have had a 100lb weight loss and have A LOT of loose skin that will not go away no matter how much cardio or abd crunches i do. so yes...if cost wasn't an issue plastic surgery all the way lol...even now im doing it with cost being an issue ;) exercise can only go so far.....

plastic surgery is a quick fix but it does nothing for the heart so I would say excersise!

I would go for the excersise myself, I think there are more benefits.

I think that this is a YES and a NO answer. I say YES to some people who would only be able to loose some of the weight with the surgery but I say NO to people who can get off their butts and do the exercise and healthy eating themselves. I think that surgery is an easy way out for lazy people who don't want to put in the hard work and that you get so much fulfillment out of exercising and getting to your goal by all the dedication that you have put into achieving it!

Definitely exercise. I've got myself into the habit of making it a daily routine and even though it's only been a few weeks I feel way better. I sleep better, have far more energy, walk taller, my skin looks healthier, I don't get out of breath as easily, my clothes are fitting looser, etc. I feel good about my accomplishments and that's something plastic surgery can't do for you. To top it off, 2 out of 3 girlfriends who have opted for plastic surgery have horrible scars from the procedure. I do, however, believe it's ok for people who have not been lazy and literally worked their butts off to opt for plastic surgery to remove excess skin as there's no amount of work you can do to get rid of that.

You bet I would.

I would definitely choose exercise, but I do agree that there are some things that exercise can't fix. Things like womens inner thighs, but maybe that's just something we gotta live with.

Exercise all the way. I don't know why on earth someone would elect to have surgery. It is the opposite of healthy.

And AC3, I used to have large inner thighs and I have worked them off with a regular exercise and diet plan. The idea that some parts can't be fixed with healthy diet and exercise is BS.

Can't I opt for both? My (wannabe) surgeon told me that after a tummy tuck and lipo I will still have to maintain a healthy lifestyle or slack muscles and fat WILL come back again - it's a myth that it doesn't.

If cost wasn't an issue I would absolutely go with plastic surgery, because let's face it, in todays day and age if effort or laziness get to the same results most people will go with laziness. The only reason everyone doesn't now is because cost IS an issue. It's unfortunate but it's true. We're in a society in which too many things are made too easy for everyone so we've grown accustom to it, myself included.

Surgery does not fix the underlying problems of obesity... I have recently lost 103 pounds in 8 months with no surgery or weight loss gimmicks, just healthy eating and exercise. There is nothing more to it than that. It is a LIFESTYLE change that needs to happen to maintain a healthy weight, not surgery. If I can do it, anyone can.

Exercise. We weren't born fat.

To me surgery is covering up your ugliness but excercise is enhancing your prettiness.

Liposuction and other weightloss surgeries are an excuse. Anyone who is clearly overweight can exercize, its just easier not to. And yes I do understand that after extreme weightloss you may have loose skin, and cosmetic surgury might be the right choice, but sucking the fat out of yourself will not solve your body issues.

I have a stomach pouch that will not go away no matter what I try. The flabby skin came from weight loss. If I knew how much a "mini" tuck would cost, then I would definately go for surgury.

Both! I run and exercise all the time, watch EVERYTHING I eat but can't get rid of my gross flabby belly. Not to mention, exercise does not get rid all my wrinkles. At 36, everything is going south. I need a little knife help!

once you've exercised and made a realistic and long term lifestyle change i think its fine to get a little nip/tuck to tidy up a pooch!! lets face it its VERY hard to get a flat stomach.. im trying you can't crunch it off even with a stability ball...i'll prob get a trainer for a bit first!

and a tummy tuck is not outrageous in Ontario from $3000-10000, you can do payments! hahahh! keep you from putting it back on!

I am an athelte and work very hard training, and running but i found that out that spot reducing isnt an option through exercise so i have opted to go ahead with lipo. i feel thats its the last part of tweeking i need. but i do agree once lipo is done eating properly and exercising is essential..

I had a gastric bypass in Jan. '09. I topped the scales at 547 pounds, surgery was my only option. But after my surgery, I exercised a lot. This type of surgery is just a tool, you have to put in a lot of effort too! Thanks to both surgery and exercise I can say that as of today I weigh in at 213 pounds (a loss of 334 pounds), and I can enjoy my life again.
