Project Runway Recap: Season 9, Episode 2

As much as I enjoy watching the whole season of PR, I always find the early episodes a little low on the drama and personality I know we'll see more of once we get to the top 10. But, we've got to eliminate the dregs to get to the top! We got a lot of Bryce, Josh M., Fallene and Josh C. time this week, which lead me to believe that one of them would be out.
We also got to know the mysterious Olivier a bit more -- but seriously friend, what's up with your full-on British accent? You're from Columbus, Ohio and you spent six years travelling in London and Milan; there's no way that isn't the most affected accent I've ever heard. Madonna has nothing on you -- and at least she's actually lived there for more than six years. Sheesh!
Tim takes the designers to a discount pet store for this week's "unconventional challenge," which was to create an outfit from $300 worth of pet store supplies. Many designers headed for the fabric equivalents including dog beds and house training pads (how hilarious was it listening to Tim say "wee-wee pads" over and over again?), while some embraced the challlenge's challenges and went for birdseed, dog food, aquarium sand and hosing.
Runway time! The third garment out is Anthony Ryan's birdseed and sunflower seed dress and I immediately wrote down LOVE. It's stylish, modern and imaginative and I wasn't surprised to see it in the top three. I also loved Anya's colourful halter top and mini, but I think it got eclipsed by Josh M.'s amazing aquarium sand top and circle skirt which was the last garment out -- but both had a similar colour story and boldness that I admired. I also liked Olivier's bedding top and hamster bedding ombre skirt -- I thought it had fit issues, though.
Josh C. unfortunately couldn't redeem himself from the bottom two position and was sent home -- and rightfully so. What happened to the much cuter raffia-looking belt he had on his top when Tim came to visit? It was so much better than the green obi-style belt on the runway. Like guest judge Stacey Bendet of Alice + Olivia said, "I keep thinking of 90s clubwear." Yuck!
Top 3: Olivier (Heidi was out-voted; she preferred Anthony Ryan's), Anthony Ryan, Josh M.
Bottom 3: Josh C., Fallene, Bryce
