How To Be A Bombshell This Summer: Q&A with Victoria's Secret Model Doutzen Kroes
When slice.ca heard that Victoria's Secret model Doutzen Kroes was in town on the Victoria's Secret Bombshell Summer Tour, we knew we had to meet the famous Angel and find out what does it really mean to be a "bombshell" and ask the new mom about any fitness tips.
I have to say, Ms. Kroes was one of the kindest and most sincere people I've met on an interview in a long time, and I really appreciated her honesty about getting into shape postpartum. She doesn't try to say there's a magic tip or trick, or that all you need to do is x, y and z. She just gives an honest and true response that makes you like her even more!
She's one of those naturally gorgeous people that are in that two percent of the population we love to say we hate, but secretly love. And for this model, there's not a drop of diva to her.
Q &A with Doutzen Kroes:
Tina Taus: What does it mean to you to be a bombshell, what does this mean "bombshell"?
Doutzen Kroes: I think a bombshell it's really about how you feel and to be a strong, I think it's about being a strong woman. And I think that's why the lingerie helps, you know, it's like a little tool to become a bombshell. And that's why we have the whole bombshell collection, and that's why we encourage every woman to become a bombshell this summer.
TT: So a bombshell is more than just about size, for woman out there who may not feel so comfortable in their own skin, do you have advice for them?
DK: What I sometimes have, you know, when you don't have a good day, when you wake up and you just don't feel like it's going to be a good day, I think it's nice to take a shower, relax, and then put makeup on, and when you put the lingerie on I think it helps because it's underneath the clothing. Then when you put something on like a very sexy push-up, I think it's a great everyday bra to feel great. Because it has a little bit of padding, and it has a deep neckline so you can wear it under t-shirts, so you know it's just a very practical everyday bra that, you know, everybody should have in their closet. That's what I'm trying to say, is that, that's what makes you feel sexy, feel like a bombshell, feel confident. It's like, like a little secret, like "oh nobody knows that I'm wearing that beautiful lingerie." But it gives you that boost.
TT: So it's really not just about what you're wearing, it's an attitude?
DK: It's really an attitude, you have to feel like a bombshell, and this is the collection that helps you feel that way. We have the miraculous bra, that I think every woman has that by now, is the one that adds two cup sizes. But we have a new one now, this one has the beautiful pink and white stripes and we have the blue and white stripes too. And what's really exciting is we have it in the swimwear now. We have the same miraculous technology in the swimwear. This is the bikini, we also have in a tankini, we have it in a one piece, and a convertible bandeau. And it's just so great that you can have the same cup size that you have in a miraculous bra also on the beach and by the pool... I think when you can look like that on the beach, that gives you that bombshell feel too for the summer.
TT: What's it like to be a Victoria's Secret Model?
DK: Well, I mean I think it's so great because you know we get to travel to beautiful places. In a few weeks I'll be in Turks and Caicos for a swim shoot, and just knowing I have that trip coming up, I'll take my son and make a little holiday out of it. Those things, that I can do that in life, travel to those beautiful places is just something extra, something great, I really enjoy that.
TT: Now you are a new mom, your son was born in January, do you have advice for new moms, trying postpartum to get their body's back in shape?
DK: I think it's a mix of so many things. I worked out my whole life, I'm only 26 when I had my baby. So that's young, I mean it's a great age for your body to get back into shape. Then I worked out afterwards. But I think it's also, my mom was like this, so it's also a little bit genetics. So you know I don't want the women to get upset, like "oh you know she says she's working out." I feel like it's a mix of all that. I had a very athletic body that has muscle memory.
TT: So that's "you" right, and I think women maybe just need to embrace themselves and know their body.
DK: Yeah, and I just think, I saw a woman today and she just had a baby and she looked great, but sometimes women just feel insecure about little things, and I have that too, but sometimes you just have to put it into perspective --- you just had a baby, and you look amazing, it's just also the fact being a mom, it just makes you feel different. Me too, I don't feel like a model, I feel like a mom. My husband needs to tell me too, 'you look great,' you know, I have insecurities.
TT: Just like everyone else...
DK: Yeah, it's just a feeling, and that's what you have when you become a mom.
TT: I guess sometimes maybe we need to remember to step it up for ourselves, and wear something sexy underneath our clothes!
DK: yes, exactly.
