Ask an Expert: Jason, what are the hottest trends?
Question: Jason, what are some of the hottest trends right now in hair color/cut?
Answer: Spring 2011 looks as though we are currently in a state of flux when it comes to hairstyles. There doesn't seem to be a singular "Rachel" haircut of the moment and perhaps that's just where hair needs to be right now. While celebs are still sporting their hair long with waves like Kim Kardashian or a majority of the Real Housewives, a trend that seems to have emerged out of this lengthy long-hair trend is beachy/ombre hair colour! Gone are striped highlights of yesteryear; natural-looking gradient hair colour seems to be the way to go. What does that mean? Well, think of Sarah Jessica Parker. Her hair colour appears to be slightly "rooty" with the blonde tones naturally running through her hair appearing slightly lighter on the ends.
Even though hair extensions are certainly this millennium's most important accessory, some celebs like Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez, and Jennifer Aniston have all gone the way of cutting their longer hair to shoulder length. A big trend that can be reminiscent of an 80s blunt shoulder haircut, more and more people are lopping off their long hair (or taking out their extensions) to reveal a shorter version of themselves. With bangs or without, this haircut is probably the biggest new "trend" around right now.
Red hair colour also seems to be hot hot hot and über hair babe Blake Lively may have just hammered the final nail into the honey blonde coffin of last season!! The newly coppery Lively has been making the rounds as the face of Chanel's Mademoiselle and shocked the world when she recently dyed her famous blonde a strawberry tone. Also making the shift to ginger is Drew Barrymore.
Lastly, I've reported that feathers, braids, or anything slightly odd is becoming a super hot trend in the world of hair accessories. From singer Ke$ha, who has been seen sporting fishtail braids in her mounds of blonde waves, or Steven Tyler's feathers and hair ornamentations, this west coast trend just might have the legs to make it across the nation! Keep your eyes peeled for odd dangling pieces throughout hairstyles this spring/summer!
So to re-cap: hair is in a state of flux. Perhaps choose ONE of these trends instead of all of them!! I don't want to see anyone walking around with a shoulder length red, beachy haircut with feathers and fishtail braids. Yikes!
