Ask An Expert: Jason, My Hairdresser Has Become Rude! Please Help!
Q: Jason, my hairdresser is rude and self centered when he talks with me. He's been rude to me on more than one occasion and I'm thinking of leaving him. Any advice?
A: Here's the crazy thing: This is not uncommon! I've seen it in action many times where a hairdresser acts as though he/she is God's gift to the world and treats their clients disrespectfully. You do not need to put up with this. Let's not forget that you're the paying client!
The only advice I can impart is that there are a ton of really great hairstylists out there and while change is never an easy thing, you must remember that you are in charge and nobody ever has the right to speak to you in a way that's anything less than appropriate.
There's something very empowering about telling a bully they're in the wrong. Once you find a new stylist for yourself, either email the manager of the salon or call them directly and let them know how the stylist has been behaving. If you would prefer to tell the stylist directly, then do so.
Make sure that the next stylist that you begin seeing is respectful and honors your time.
While no salon runs perfectly smoothly, here is a list of things you should expect when finding a good match:
*a clean friendly salon space.
*a polite and customer service based salon.
*a talented/professional stylist who is on top of the latest trends.
*a stylist who understands what your hair type/facial shape needs are.
*somebody who you connect with.
*someone who doesn't keep you waiting forever and doesn't make you spend 4 hours at the salon each visit.
