Gonna Dress Us Up in Her Love... And Clothes
We weren’t surprised when mayhem ensued at the reveal of Madonna’s new collection today at H&M. Crowds gathered outside Canada’s flagship H&M at the Eaton’s Centre in Toronto, rushing into the store as the doors were unlocked. Luckily, I had my bodyguards with me, so my photographer (aka Lipstick Lolita) was able to pick up a pretty silk black and cream kimono with only a minimal trampling.
The collection, which draws heavily from Madonna’s own wardrobe and all her signature pieces, is minimalist and chic, focussing on stark blacks and cream colours with the occasional touch of colour. You might think that Madonna had little to nothing to do with the line, but she was very active in the collaboration with H&M’s design chief Margareta van den Bosch, designing and inspiring along the way.
We were pleasantly surprised by the collection; it was quite sleek with its black silk blouses and cream leather trenches. We also loved: Patent leather clutches and stacked heels. Expect to pay a little bit more than you’re used to at H&M, but prices were actually very reasonable with smaller pieces available for under 20 bucks.
