Superstar Hair Challenge

Superstar Hair Challenge Episodics

Episode 1: Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

For the first challenge, the stylists had the chance to get their scissors dirty. The stylists selected their long-haired models using the traditional scissor pick: the number on the scissors matched up with a model. The stylists each made a ponytail in their models hair and it had to be at least eight inches long in order to be able to donate the hair to the Canadian Cancer Society. After that, the stylists had carte blanche to do what they wanted. Two stylists were chosen to go home, but weren’t revealed until the next day, adding even more tension to an already tense situation.

The 10 remaining stylists had to show some versatility by applying and styling real hair extensions. The hair, courtesy of euronaturals™ (www.euronaturals.ca), was versatile enough to be used in updos or left long. Once again, the models were chosen by the scissor pick. They were divided into a top three, bottom three, and a safe group. One person from the bottom three was sent home.

It’s Man Day and the stylists are challenged to create a new look for a burly man. Each of the stylists are given three minutes to consult with each of the men to convince them that they’re the stylist to make their hair dreams come true. After the consults, each man chooses a stylist and the haircutting begins. A barber is on hand from GotStyle to aid with any facial hair issues. Each of the men show their outfits supplied by GotStyle to their hairdresser for further inspiration. After the challenge, three stylists are labelled top three and three are pushed to the bottom and they must compete in the Redemption Challenge.

For redemption, the stylists complete a scissor selection to see which model they will work with of three little boys. Each boy has brought along some hair inspiration, photos of their hair models, Justin Timberlake, Joe Jonas, and Zac Efron. The stylists compete to do a cut that resembles their hair idol. Episode 4: Avant-Garde

The stylists wake up to a card delivery under their door with information about their next challenge: avant-garde.

The card reads: "Good Morning, Stylists! I hope you had sweet dreams last night; it’s time for your next challenge. Today it’s all about Avant-Garde Hair and your inspiration will be ‘In Your Dreams’, whatever that means to you. Please meet Marilisa at a location where you will purchase items to create your Avant-Garde hair style. Remember, be creative. Dream big!"

The stylists travel to Honest Ed’s where they are given a budget of $40 and a time limit of 20 minutes to shop for items that will work into their avant-garde hairstyle. Marilisa is on hand to time the shoot. Back at the Superstar headquarters, the stylists are greeted by a fleet of Sephora make-up artists who are there to assist with their avant-garde look, In Your Dreams. They work together over two hours to complete the transformation. After the challenge, three stylists are labelled the top three and three are pushed to the bottom and must compete in the Redemption Challenge.

For redemption, the stylists are asked to create an avant-garde look that represents one of the four seasons: Summer, Winter, Fall, or Spring. They select scissors to determine their model, but the model chooses the season. There are four seasonal outfits on hand as inspiration. Seasonal props are provided to aid in their avant-garde style. Episode 5: Runway & Red Carpet

This challenge tested our stylists’ abilities to create three different looks for a fashion show in a limited amount of time. The hairstyles had to go with the fashion designer’s vision.

The two stylists who had been in the top three the most times were chosen as team leaders. They then selected their team members one by one, which was a good insight into the standings within the group. Each team met with fashion designer Izzy Camilleri and got the chance to learn about the inspiration for her collection. Each stylist had one model they were responsible for and had to create three separate looks for her. The team who best matched their hairstyles to the designer’s vision was declared the winner. The stylists then revealed which of their team members didn’t pull their weight. The stylists were judged individually and three were sent to the bottom to seek redemption.

The redemption challenge saw the three bottom stylists creating designs for a red carpet event. Once their style was complete, they were interviewed by slice.ca entertainment reporter Jamey Ordolis and had to show how charismatic they could be on camera. Two stylists were sent home.
