How To Get The Guy

Meet The Host

JD Roberto

JD Roberto is a Renaissance man in every sense of the word, having spent time as an actor, writer, and relationship connoisseur. An honors graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (where he studied acting), JD’s training includes Master Classes with the Royal Shakespeare Company, Uta Hagan, and as an exchange student at the International Theatre School of Holland.

Since graduation, JD has kept quite busy by making his mark in a variety of media, playing a series of different roles. His film credits include Nautilus, ’Til Night, The Mask of Zorro, the award-winning short film Moment of Silence (which he also produced and edited), and a slew of independent feature films he openly admits he hopes nobody ever sees again. On television, he has made appearances on shows like “Frasier,” “All My Children,” “Passions,” “General Hospital, “ “Family Matters,” and “Step by Step.” He also had a recurring role on “The New Adventures of Robin Hood.” In addition to performing on screen, he has also returned to his roots on stage. His theatre credits include performances at New York’s Theatre for the New City, SoHo Rep, Playwrights Horizons, The Metropolitan Opera, and The Laguna Playhouse, where he played the title role in the critically acclaimed production of “Picasso at the Lapin Agile.”

Aside from acting, JD has also hosted several popular television series. As a host, he has had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of experiences that range from playing with Burmese pythons and pygmy goats on Animal Planet’s “You Lie Like a Dog,” to trekking the American wild on Outdoor Life Network’s “Great Hikes,” and hand-feeding Caribbean reef sharks on Travel Channel’s “Shark Chasers.” He’s also been seen on TBS as the host of the reality program, “Outback Jack,” as a guest host for “E! News Live” and on “Are You Hot?”

After nearly a decade as a self-described “serial monogamist,” JD met the love of his life, Karen, and the two have been married now for over seven years. In his free time, JD is an avid adventure traveler, as he and his wife have spent months on end with packs strapped to their backs touring the globe. The pair have packed their way through 50 countries, with stops in Western and Eastern Europe, the Baltics, Russia, Mexico, Central America, North America, South America, the Middle East, India, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia.

JD and Karen’s greatest adventure to date has been the arrival of their child, Enzo, born on location in San Francisco during production on “How to Get the Guy.” And, yes, Enzo already has a passport.

Teresa Strasser

In the entertainment world, Teresa Strasser is a triple threat, having spent her career proving that she can write, host, and report.

As a writer, Teresa reached the pinnacle of success when she won an Emmy Award for her work on Comedy Central’s “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” Since then, she has also written for several other television shows, including “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” Outside the realm of television, Teresa is the current Los Angeles Press Club Columnist of the Year (for small newspapers) and has spent the last decade writing a syndicated singles column that has appeared in newspapers all over the country, including the San Francisco Chronicle and the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles. In addition to her singles column, her work has also appeared in the popular “Fashion Police” section of US Weekly, and she recently became a regular contributing columnist at the Los Angeles Times. On a critical level, the work she’s done throughout her career has garnered several journalism awards, including the Simon Rockower Awards for Excellence in both feature and singles writing.

Television viewers know her best as host of the hit TLC design show, “While You Were Out,” a role that earned her a 2003 Emmy Award nomination. Due to the show’s heavy syndication schedule, Teresa has found it difficult to escape her role as makeover maven. To this day, she is still asked to redecorate homes by passing motorists and street vendors.

Following her time with TLC, Teresa joined the staff of “Good Day New York” as a feature reporter, a position that ultimately helped her become the New York correspondent for both “Good Day Live” and “On-Air with Ryan Seacrest.” Her other on-air experience includes hosting red carpet coverage for both the Emmy and Tony Awards for the E! Network and TV Guide Channel, respectively, and playing a television reporter on shows like “Summerland,” “Jonny Zero” and “The Jury.” She has also contributed her own blend of unique commentary on numerous specials for the E! Network, including “101 Celebrity Oops” and “That Was Huge.”

Despite all of the success she has achieved throughout her career, Teresa still maintains that her proudest day in show business was dressing up as a Christmas tree for the Country Music Television special, “The 20 Merriest Country Music Videos.” Ironically, the program was filmed on Yom Kippur.
