October Trend Report: Smooth Velvet

Every month here at slice.ca we report to you with our favourite happening trend in fashion, and our friends from HGTV.ca and FoodNetwork.ca get in on the fun as well. This month, we're talking smooth velvet. No, not the crushed velvet bodysuits of the '90s - which some of you may recall - but today's current trend of modern cuts of the smooth version of this fabric.

Hello Drop Dead Diva fans, here is my third vlog recap of Season 3 of Drop Dead Diva on Episode 3! What do I chat about in my vlog? Each week I recap the happenings of the latest episode along with personal interjections of my opinions on fashion, guest stars, "likes" and other noteworthy moments. September Trend Report: Spotted! Polka dots in Fashion Houses

Polka dot patterned apparel and accessories is not a new fashion trend or style, however, it is hot for September! When I think of polka dots and fashion, I naturally think of a 1950s type swing dress in black spotted print on white fabric. Or the pale pink and black polka dot dress worn by Cher in the movie Mermaids, with its 3/4 length sleeves and delicate lace trim along the neckline, sophisticated yet sexy. But what's happening with today's spotted trend, is taking this classic pattern and having more fun with it by applying it to more modern shapes and styles.

Drop Dead Diva: S3E2 Vlog Recap

Hello Drop Dead Diva fans, last week I debuted my first of many video blogs for Season 3 of Drop Dead Diva, where I recap the happenings of each episode along with personal interjections of my opinions on fashion, guest stars, likes and other noteworthy moments from each episode. This week, I give you my second Vlog Recap on Season 3, Episode 2!

Drop Dead Diva: S3E1 Vlog Recap

Hello Drop Dead Diva fans, today I am publishing my first of many DDD Vlogs! I (Tina Taus, also known as Rants & Raves blogger Beach Babe) am a big fan of Drop Dead Diva. When Season 2 aired on Showcase last year, I blogged weekly then because there's just something about this show that makes me want to talk about it after I watch it! Now, with the premiere of Season 3 of Drop Dead Diva on Slice, I'm going from blogging to vlogging on a weekly basis.

Guilty Pleasures: No Price Too High for My Eyebrows!

My latest and greatest guilty pleasure is to pay $25 (plus tax & tip) to get my long and bushy eyebrows tweezed and trimmed to perfection! Now $25 may sound like a lot to dish out for one's brows, considering a bikini wax can cost less, but for this gal who has suffered through many eyebrow highs and lows in her lifetime, it is money well spent. (Plus where I go, if I buy 5 sessions for $100, it's really only $20 a pop instead!)

August Trend Report: International Fashion Hits the Runways

International influences in fashion are not new, however, this year there seems to be a resurgence of this trend in some of the Spring/Summer 2011 Ready To Wear (RTW) collections.

Trend Report: Bright Blocks of Colour For Summer

This summer a popular fashion trend is not only bright colours, but pairing them together. Gone are the days of avoiding clashing colours like pink & red, purple & red, or green with blue. Bright and bold is in!

How To Be A Bombshell This Summer: Q&A with Victoria's Secret Model Doutzen Kroes

When slice.ca heard that Victoria's Secret model Doutzen Kroes was in town on the Victoria's Secret Bombshell Summer Tour, we knew we had to meet the famous Angel and find out what does it really mean to be a "bombshell" and ask the new mom about any fitness tips...

Manners & Etiquette: Struggling to find regal-like behaviour in a tech-riddled society

As we go through the every day motions of life in a densely populated and tech-riddle society, I encounter a wide array of social indecencies, lack of manners and common public courtesies.

JUKARI Fit to Fly - A Cirque du Soleil Inspired Workout!

It’s fitness week on slice.ca and what better way to cap it off then to showcase the latest trend in fitness! I had the opportunity to test out the new workout program JUKARI Fit to Fly and let me tell you, I was sore for three solid days after!

Wedding Trends from The Wedding Co. 2011 Wedding Show!

The Wedding Co. 10th Anniversary Wedding Show was held this past weekend - here are some trends/style ideas I took away from this year's wedding show.

A Somewhat Royal Engagement for a Royal Fan

Not long after Prince William and Kate Middleton (or Miss Catherine Middleton as I should officially state) got engaged, I wrote a blog about how this royal wedding has sparked sapphire loving around the world. I would never have guessed, however, that on December 10, 2010 my boyfriend would pop the question. And, he did it in style of course, with an antique sapphire and diamond ring.

A Royal Wedding Sparks Sapphire Loving

Just a day after Prince William proposed to his longtime love Kate Middleton with his mother's amazing 18-carat blue sapphire and diamond ring was the demand for replicas already in full force.

A Royal Engagement Finally Ends a School-Girl Crush

Prince William is officially off the market for all the women in this world who grew up with him, put posters of him on their wall, dreaming and maintaining a glimmer of hope that they could one day call themselves a princess. I was one of those girls. Now I must weigh in on this landmark, world-stopping engagement that has rocked the end of the first decade of the 21st century: the engagement of His Royal Highness Prince William and Miss Catherine (aka. Kate) Middleton.

Slice on the Street: What's Hiding In Your Closet?

For the past few years, ever since I lived in a condo, I tend to do a spring cleaning of my apartment. If I don't do a clean through of my storage, I at least do an overhaul of my wardrobe. I actually find I'll start to get antsy around the first week of April as I anticipate that time of year when you know it's warm enough to finally put your winter clothes in storage and bring out your spring/summer clothes.

Slice on the Street: Bridezillas! Do You Let Them Run Wild?

Some families develop tension over the wedding, whereas sometimes a bride will regret who they chose for a bridesmaid. There are many scenarios where things don't go as planned leading up to the big day. That's when a bride can turn from seemingly normal into a "bridezilla."

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Joe Fresh and Attitude

Combat-studded and high-heeled ankle boots, fur coats, leather and plaid, are all going to be gracing Joe Fresh store shelves for this Fall/Winter. Designer Joe Mimran is also featuring shorts for the chillier months ahead, perhaps predicting mild temperatures?

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Preloved Fall/Winter Collection

Preloved showcased its Fall/Winter 2010 collection yesterday evening and the focus was all about the legs! Founder Julia Grieve and Creative Director Peter Friesen somehow always manage to combine a variety of reclaimed vintage fabrics to create a truly individual one-of-a kind look. As a fan of Preloved, I was expecting to see much of its signature look, which is to incorporate plaids and patterns with knitted and wool fabrics. I was not expecting to be pleasantly surprised by the constant theme of knee- and thigh-high stockings.

Slice on the Street - Ask a Guy: Dating Dealbreaker

We asked the ladies, now it's time to ask the fellas, what's your dating dealbreaker?

Slice on the Street: St. Paddy's Day Edition

What's your most memorable St. Patrick's Day story. March 17th - St. Patrick's Day. A day when the green beer starts flowing, Irish tunes a playing and people profess their allegiance to Ireland with hats and pins that say "Erin Go Bragh" or "Kiss Me, I'm Irish!" Even Chicago pays tribute to this celebratory day with their annual tradition of dyeing the Chicago River green. Whether you're Irish or not, St. Patrick's Day has to be one of the most celebrated days of the year. It brings out the good cheer in people, and in others sometimes the worst. Too much fun can lead to some memorable stories, for good or bad.

Slice on the Street: Vacation vs Staycation

With this popular month (March) for travelling upon us, I want to know which do you prefer and why, vacation or staycation?

Slice on the Street - Ask a Guy: Worst/Best Pick-Up Lines

I've heard many lines, some completely inappropriate and offensive as well. I wanted to know though from a guy if they actually use pick-up lines, or what are the best/worst ones they've heard and if they think they actually work! So I asked some random fellas I met on the street my burning questions - see the responses in the video below.

Slice on the Street: Would An All Cash Budget Work For You?

I wanted to know how many of us out there are willing to forgo all plastic and try a money jar system. Would an all-cash budget work for you? That is the question I proposed this week.

Slice on the Street: Should There Be a Real Housewives of Toronto?

They're the women you love to love and love to hate… the Real Housewives of OC, Atlanta, New Jersey and New York have taken real homes by storm. And as we've seen with successful reality TV shows in the United States, sometimes a Canadian version comes out and achieves similar success here in our homeland. So the thought crossed my mind one day, "why doesn't Canada have its own 'Real Housewives' show?"

Slice on the Street - Valentine's Day: Love it or Overrated?

With Valentine's Day less than a week away, you're either cringing at the thought and had enough red, pink and white already --- or you're getting excited about the weekend ahead and the chocolates and flowers that potentially await you.

Slice on the Street - Ask a Guy: Break Up Behaviour/Etiquette

Last week we talked about dating dealbreakers, things/habits or attitudes about someone you're dating you just won't tolerate. For some of us, these dealbreakers result in breaking up. And in our high-tech instant-messaging world, what's an acceptable form of communication for ending it?

Makeup: Get A Face For the Red Carpet Without the Star Price!

It's awards season in Hollywood, and that means a lot of glitz and glam on the red carpet! The best part of awards season is seeing what trends are in fashion with dresses, hair and makeup. One person who I personally think looked absolutely classic and stunning on the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) red carpet this year was Drew Barrymore.

Slice on the Street: What's Your Dating Dealbreaker?

Nose picking, bad breath, rudeness, arrogance, nail biting, spitting, etc. – these are just some traits or habits I've heard people are not willing to tolerate or put up with in a relationship. We call them "dating dealbreakers" -- something that is just a "no no" you won't put up with, something that would cause you not to date that person.

Slice on the Street: Pets - Love them or Hate them?

Season 6 of At the End of My Leash has started up (watch full episodes here) - and after watching the first episode I started to wonder about how many people take on a pet and regret it? Are there people out there who don't like pets?

Spynga Dare to Do 30 Program with Dr. Macklin from X-Weighted: Families

Dare to Do 30 is a 30-day program where participants get unlimited yoga and cycling classes at Spynga – The Yoga and Cycling Studio in Toronto – as well as counseling on nutrition, exercise, weight loss, stress management and sleep.

Slice on the Street: Cosmetic Surgery or Exercise?

Nose job, breast lift, tummy tuck, liposuction, chin implants, fat injections… the list continues -- there are endless possibilities when it comes to cosmetic surgery and one's body.

Slice on the Street - Holiday Edition: New Year Resolutions

January 1, 2010 - a new year, a new decade! I am not one to usually make New Year resolutions. I don't know if I personally believe in making a resolution at one specific time during the year. It's never to late to start something new, turn a new leaf in your life or set a goal for yourself.

Slice on the Street - Holiday Edition: Plans for New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve celebrations - overrated? Each year my friends and I try and come up with what we think is a great idea for celebrating New Year's Eve.

Slice on the Street - Holiday Edition: Worst Shopping Experience

The holidays can be joyful, celebratory, peaceful and all things jolly and merry. They can also be stressful, a headache, monetarily and physically draining.

Slice on the Street: Ask a Guy - Chivalry on the First Date

When applying this to a first date, what does that mean? When I think of what it means to be chivalrous on the first date, I think of being courteous, opening doors, taking the other persons interests for the date into consideration, being respectful towards that person, paying for the meal, movie, etc. Some would call this "old-fashioned." Some may say it's not fair expecting one to pay the bill and not the other, that it takes away from the notion that we are all equal. So what is acceptable first-date etiquette today?
