Hi Tommy,

I seem to be having the same 'problem' as Anna! I have lost 45lbs recently and my legs seem to be still hugh! I am not overly over weight - 5'5" and 147lbs but my legs are still not shaping up. I do cardio and weights alternating each day - about an hour each. I do LOTS of lunges and squats. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! Vicky

I don't recall Brad Pattison ever telling anyone to hit a dog. The reality is that they are dogs and not people. Dogs have different rules and his training techniques are quite logical and make perfectly good sense. I hardly think dogs in packs when achieving their place in the pack say... "Oh terribly sorry I shoved you, here, let me kiss it better."

I need a wedding etiquette expert! I'm in the wedding party of a dear friend. I am doing a slide show for her wedding that is costing me upwards of $500. This is a favour that she asked me to do. Can I give this to her as a wedding gift? Between the showers, the dress, the slide show and other massive expenses, this wedding is costing me several thousand dollars and I do NOT have that kind of money....she is a wonderful generous friend and I don't want to seem cheap!

thanks for your help!

Jason,

I'm in my '40s and have had baby fine blonde hair my entire life.

I know how to buy the right product and blow dry it to get the most volume, but whenever I have a stylist do it, they seem to want to make it as flat as possible, putting "mud" or some kind of thick paste on it and then using a square brush to make it super straight (my hair is straight anyway).

I'm in a wedding soon, and we all have to go to the same hairdresser to get our hair done. What can I say to get some poof instead of flatness? I hate backcombing.

Currently, I have a slightly layered chin length bob.

Any tips would be most grateful, as I feel like I cannot communicate to hairstylists!

Thanks!

Justin & Annabelle,

I'm 42, single, with a 9 month old son. I struggled with dating in my '30's when I was childless, so I would like to turn that around in my '40s.

I'm averagely attractive, fit, have a great career, lots of friends, good sense of humour, am not shy....however I seem to have a hard time in the dating dept. I'd almost rather get to know someone without the pressure of dating. But now that I'm a mom, my "me" time is limited.

Any suggestions?

Hi Gary,

When I was pregnant, my sister-in-law was pregnant with her first baby around the same time. Now our daughters are three months apart. Before giving birth, I made a will naming my brother and sister-in-law as my child's guardians (I'm a single mom). However, when I see how they are raising their daughter, I cringe. Their parenting style is not in any way similar to mine, in fact, I think their's borders on cruelty. There is no way I can leave my baby to them, should something happen to me.

So I want to change my will, but I don't want to offend them (I think they think my style of parenting is equally terrible, as I'm accused of cuddling my baby too much).

Any suggestions?

Hi Tommy,

Like the people on your show, I'm trying to lose the 'last 10 pounds'. This is part of a long journey for me. Five years ago I weighed 250 pounds. I've lost the weight in a healthy manner - changing my eating habits and exercising. Now that I'm at 145 lbs (and 5'4) my goal is in sight: 130-135 lbs. The problem is that I'm eating healthy and working out 5 days a week, but the weight is just not budging. It's been several months now that I've hit this plateau and it's tough to keep up the motivation to work so hard and not see results. Any advice you have would be very welcome! Thanks!

Brad:

I have a 6 year old female (altered)C***er spaniel. She is my constant shadow and companion. (You might even say I have an invisible umbilical cord with her) She is quite obedient and knows her commands. During this past year she has become vocal with other dogs. A dog passes the house, she barks. She hears a dog barking on tv, she barks. She is generally quite socialable with other animals but at the same time is not an active dog that runs around (she lacks pep). At dog runs she basically keeps to herself, but she will stop to greet a dog and then walk away. Lately, on walks certain dogs she will growl at before she greets, or will greet and start barking and jumping, or when greeting she will bark at them yet her tail is wagging like crazy, and the other 60 percent of the time, she will greet a dog and then continue on her way. I am confused with this one. She is all over the map. She has always been more or less a quiet dog up until the past year. I will tell her "no noise" and she will generally quiet down, maybe adding one more bark. I watch your show looking for little pointers, but even though she sits at a snap, walks by my side and will stay sitting when I put food in front of her (she is a food dog), I can't seem to rectify the barking where other dogs are concerned. Any idea how I can rectify this behaviour or what might be the cause. More socializing, more interaction?? I take her everywhere I can a dog. BTW.. she doesn't bark at people, loves people!!!

Thank you

Hi Tommy, I broke my ankle 8 months ago, 4 months after having my baby. Right now I am struggling with some extra unwanted pounds (baby fat). My ankle has a metal plate and pins in it, and I have been told I will mostly always "roll my ankle." and I do all the time. right now its still feels stiff at times, mostly after having sat for awhile and on the other hand it slightly swells when I have been on it for too long. What gives?! do you have any suggestions?

Hi Jason,

I 've tried many different shampoos and they all seem to make my scalp itchy almost immediately after washing! This happens all year round. I've tried many products, cheap expensive, for all types of scalps etc... Is there a common ingredient in all shampoos I might be allergic to? This has happened just recently and I am in my early 50's is it hormonal? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Jason,

I'm 38 years old and I'm having a major problem with my hair.....In the last year it has become very dry with severe breakage at the ends and it's not growing. Could it be from using too much product or from my curling/straightening iron or could it be something that's happening with my health?

HI Tommy, I like to ask how to tighten my abs. I do not use any weights or machines on my abs as I myself find it just makes them bigger but harder. I do not have tight abs and been working out for years. Can you please give me some ab hints and how often to do them.

I am told every second day. I also know that cardio along with training your abs work the best. As many people think just sitting and doing crunches works and I know that isnt so.

To many machines out there that promise flat abs and everyone falls for it, if that was the case we all have flat sexy abs. They dont work and I wish they would stop advertising they do. Its ripping people off. I however need some change , please help

Thank you

Hi Tommy!

For about a month now, I have been enjoying the effects of my new fitness plan. I have a personal trainer who pushes me to my limits, and I am seeing wonderful results.

I have been eating really healthily, and it has definitely become a lifestyle change for me.

But what can I do when I get sick? Like right now, for example, I have a cold. Can I still work out while I have a cold, or should I opt to spend a few days in rest, to get better? Is it true what they say: Sweat it out? Or does this simply delay your recovery?

Thanks so much, Tommy!

Hi Tommy and Nadeen:
I am a 42 year old mother of 4. (all 6 1/2 years apart.)
Not only have I almost doubled my weight and measurements but I did it relatively in double my years since I was in the best shape of my life.(I was 21)
Having children so spaced out and so late in years feels like an impossible feat to reach your personal goals. I want to fit into regular size clothes again but have to shop in plus size departments.
Is there hope of losing 50 plus pounds? I am 5'8 and 213lbs (what an ugly number)....I have been eating healthily for 4 months and not lost one pound!
Very frustrating!
What is a healthy goal time-wise....and being a rectangular body shape (watch your show daily) WillI ever get a waist again? Or better yet....abs like nadeene's???? I don't think so. I've had 4 c-sections.
Let me know what is realistic. I need some light at the end of the tunnel.
PS: Do you think you would have a show for women like me who have lots of work to do rather than the last 10 lbs????? I pray you will think about it.
Keep up the inspiration....both of you.

Hi Brad,
I have a 6 year old male Shiba Enu named Monkey. I've had him since he was 9 months old and recently my fiancé moved in with me. Since then he has started to pee on all of his stuff when I'm not around and has even peed on my couch. I cannot lock him up when I leave the house as he's worn down all of his teeth trying to chew through the kennel bars in an attempt to escape. He has also started eating his fur off of his paws and is becoming grumpy around other dogs at the park (not aggressive just grumpy). I've tried the umbilical method you show on your show and my fiancé has as well. I also take him for frequent walks and to the dog park to meet other dogs on a regular basis. My fiancé blames me for the dogs bad behaviour because I don't discepline him enough. However, the vet told me not to get mad at the dog when he pees because it will make him upset and he doesn’t know why he’s in trouble. Do you have any advice?

Maria:

These days everybody is worried about being too fat so this may sound weird, but I have a problem with gaining or even maintaining weight.

First, let me be clear:

1. I'm healthy according to the doctors and I feel that way too.

2. I exercise regularly, almost every day, with resistance exercises one day, alternating with running the next. Nothing extreme with the weights because I can't handle much weight. The running is maybe 3 to 4 km at a shot, so it is not extreme either.

3. I am male, about 5'11", weigh about 156 pounds, and am fit in the sense that my muscles are firm and I have low body fat.

4. I eat a reasonably diversified diet.

THE PROBLEM IS that I am thin, pretty much skin, bones, and tendons. I can't seem to develop much upper body strength because I do not have the body mass to work with. For example, the best I can do - on a good day - is bench press about 130 pounds (just under 60 kilos).

I have tried, over and over, to increase caloric intake, even eating more than 4,000 calories a day, with a lot of protein, but that does no good. My metabolism just eats it up. As it is I have to work to maintain my body weight. If I didn't I have the sense that I would slip down into the 140 pound range.

I have looked at weight gain supplements but they are mostly based upon milk components and I shy away from these because of moderate (and farily normal) lactose intolerance.

I know some people with weight issues would hate me for saying this is a problem and I understand. Still, it is frustrating and I have self esteem issues because of it. For example, my wife likes to play around wrestling (in a truly playful non abusive way). She can pin me flat anytime she puts her mind to it. (At least I can outrun her.) I also feel easily intimidated by others, knowing that most reasonably fit and normally strong people could break me in two.

Maybe this is just about accepting the cards dealt but I am wondering if you have any advice on how to gain and maintain weight for someone like me.

He used to be very sociable with other dogs but in the last couple years and especially since we had our daughter he is a little antisocial. I encourage people to bring their dogs over and he will not play with other dogs. He just wants to sleep or just be left alone. He is not aggressive but usually will growl a bit to tell the other dog to leave him alone. How do I make my Tony socialize again?

Hi Jane,

I have a question about wedding etiquette. My best friend is getting married in Mexico next year and her soon-to-be father in law is paying for the entire wedding party's trip expenses. My husband and I are both in the wedding party so our expenses are covered ($2500 per person!!), my question is...what would be an appropriate way of thanking the groom's father? My husband and I are so appreciative, we want to let him know how thankful we are...

Tommy I have a huge question. I am wondering why there are women who are coming in to your measurement and weigh in portion of the show, who end up having a huge waist and hip size and end up weighing some very low amount when I am smaller then they are and weigh so much more then they do???? I have measurements of bust 43inches (I have rather large girls DDD) waist 30 inches, hips 41 inches and my weight is anywhere from 175 to 183 depending where I am in the month (near my time of the month I retain a ton of water) you just had a woman on, who is my height, her inches are way bigger then mine her waist was a wopping 37 inches! But she weighed in at 158??!!!! I am seeing this constantly on all these weight loss shows and I am so lost on why I am so heavy but smaller then these women? Also what can a woman who had brain surgery 4 years ago on Oct 29th can do for exercise to really tone up her body. I cannot move my right side well at all and use a cane and walker to walk, I also have huge tummy problems right now so eating is very hard for me and my calories are horrible I aim for a thousand a day but usually hit around eight hundred. I know when the medical community find out the issue it will get back to my thousand a day but for now there is no way unless I start mowing down on candy which usually results me being sick. I know the eating is going against me, the ability move is going against me but there has to be something I can do to start getting off this cellulite that has just totally attacked my legs and getting my heart rate up is hard when my right side does not work. Any suggestions would help out greatly:)

Hi Gary,

I've been wanting to pose this question to you as it's a problem I've faced my whole life and it's affecting my relationship with my husband. I have never in my whole life shared a bed with someone else, and I'm a VERY light sleeper and unfortunately require my 8hrs sleep (we both work full time jobs). My husband and I always go to bed together everynight, but during the course of the night we end up sleeping in separate beds as I'm still not used to my husband's snoring, kicking and jumping. This isn't how I've envisioned my married relationship to be with my husband and I know it's affecting him negatively. Do you have any advise for couples who have this problem or a similar one?

Thank you :)

This is for Tommy and Maria:

I work nights and am mother to two young ones. Also, my hubby has a very unpredictable schedule which makes scheduling time for exercise difficult. The distance of my gym and the hours that they have available babysitting is also a hurdle. Due to my hectic day and erratic sleeping (grab an hour when I can) I am uncertain when or how to eat in a way that won't pack the pounds on. when I remember, we have pretty tasty and nutrtious meals. When I forget to take something from the freezer or fall asleep unexpectedly, it is a mad dash that usually means some kind of take out. It feels like there are alot of obstacles in the way, but I am willing to go around them if you both will guide me in the right direction. Thanks for any help you can guve.

Hi Tommy: I really enjoy you show I try to watch when ever I can. I'm 53 years old and live in Ontario and I wish I could go to your bootcamp. I need your help. I'm a full time mom, wife, and dog owner. But, my eating habits suck as it is now if I'm hungry I will eat if not oh well I will eat tomorrow at breakfast. My family is very supportive of me getting back into shape. What I need is some one like you to kick my butt and the pounds that go with it.
I know that I don't need to lose weight because I weigh 103-108 pounds. Yep.... that's it. I need to get into shape to run a 5 or 10 k run with my sister we will be running for the cure which is in October here in the north so I try to work out 3-4 times a day but so far I've gotten no where.
So like I said I need help. Thanks telling where to sign up for your show and I will show up. Thanks, Dot

This is for Tommy
I am 5'3" tall, weigh 104 pounds. My measurements are 35-26-31. My ring size is 4. My problem is that even with this weight and these measurements, I still have muffin tops, and belly and arm fat to lose and to lose it would put me under 100 pounds. I can't even imagine what that would put my hip measurement at. I have an ultra small bone structure, but don't know if going under 100 would be healthy. I'm getting the feeling that every single ounce of extra fat on my body has to go before the belly and arms go. Does this happen? I know you can't spot lost or exercise, so I'm not sure what to do at this point. Any advice. Thanks.

Hi Jane,

My fiance and I are in our early 30s and well-beyond the idea of having a traditionally grand wedding. We actually plan on eloping in Jamaica and returning to host a lovely, intimate dinner with family and friends to celebrate our low-key wedding. We're looking for an ideal venue to host this dinner for about 40 people max, in the GTA. Do you have any ideas for a stylish party? We want to keep it elegant, but comfortable...something the whole family will enjoy and we won't have to stress about.
THanks so much!

Gary,

My husband and I have two children who have just entered school. With the kids, my full-time career, and his business, we seem to have lost each other. He is mad or tired most of the time. He appreciates when I put some effort to be with him but I'm starting to feel unloved and am losing trust that he really cares about me. When I talk to him about my feelings, I'm careful to take responsibility for myself but I do ask for his opinions on how we can move forward. He acts like he doesn't know what to say, which is probably true, but it's painful for me. He says he is sometimes happy with our relationship and sometimes not. He doesn't seem to have the energy to put any effort in. I am able to put forth the emotional and mental effort but I can't take on more day-to-day responsibilities as I'm already overwhelmed. I suspect that is what he needs, though. Where do I start to get us back on track?

Justin and Annabelle,

I wonder if I can get some advice. I'm not really sure how to word this, but there's someone a fair distance away from me, that I really love. I've known him, almost 2 years now (It'll be 2 years in March) The problem is, that under the circumstances my feelings cannot be returned. He knows my feelings, but he wants us to stay friends until we've met... Here is where things get... annoying. He's in the US Military - and I'm a simple small town girl in Ontario Canada. We've scheduled times before to meet, but the Military has butted in and made it so it cannot happen. This is what he's told me, and i believe him in completely.

He's also a bit of a pessimist when it comes to the Military. He always says 'We'll see', or doesn't give me a straight answer - though I did have a break through not long ago and he actually gave me a straight answer! Made me feel so good, compared to my usual feelings of frustrating (Oddly, I actually love the fact that he frustrates me; I'll never be bored with him!) We seem to have a million and one things in common. We've spoken about maybe meeting in the summer - he might be at a wedding in Ohio and I've a 'Sister-like' friend who wants to see me; My guy said that he would like to meet 'But it'll depend on the military'

My feelings for him have never wavered, i never question his loyalty... But what should i do? I honestly cannot wait until 1214, when his contract ends again. I need a little advice. I've tried looking closer to home and he seems like one... what should I do? Any suggestions?

Hi, Justin,

Miss. Long-distance again.

I've read over your reply a few times, and i suppose I was rather unclear on certain things. The first year that we met, there was a chance last christmas that i'd actually be able to meet him... But i was having family over last year and there wouldn't have been any room for him. The second chance we came out with, was this past August - since he was deployed over seas, Feb 14, 2009. But the second he got off that plane, he was pushed into classes and hasn't had any leave at all.

And when i did meet him he was in Sicily - So from March to Nov 2008, he was on the other side of the planet.

Even last night (Mon, Dec 14) when he came online - i missed him each time i called him on the phone - and said that he might be getting redeployed this coming May... the month before the time we had planed to meet. He's not getting his 'mandated' leave at all.

He's not even getting a Christmas break! Which is unfortunate because someone else in the family is holding it this year and he'd actually be able to stay!

I admit that i don't completely understand the whole 'leave' thing, but from my understanding, from what he's told me. He has no say in the matter at all, since the war started, the Military system has been really screwed up.

So, really Justin, what you said, does it really... fit this situation? I completely understand your points just the same and they've very good ones! Just... It's honestly not his fault. The military is all screwed up. He knows my feelings, he wants to meet... But honestly the Military just gets in the way... But i'm calling him today (Tues 15) or Tomorrow (Wed 16) and i'll poise the question to him.

I'll try and get the email for the ask an expert thing to work next time. It requires OutLook Express to work... and I don't have the thing set up, since i use an @msn.com account, i've never used Outlook Express.

Dear Justin & Annabelle:

I m losing hope in the dating world and really need help... :(

I'm a 36 years-old professional woman financially and emotionally stable, living in the beautiful Vancouver. I like to be in shape, work out with a personal trainer, love golf, tennis, oudoor activities and usually open to try different things in life. I have strong family values and I'm highly educated who speaks 3 languages... I consider myself a very honest, romantic and passionate person who enjoys the finest and the simplest things in life... balance for me in life is the real happiness and so far my life is not balanced since haven't being able to find that special person whom I can feel total chemistry (physical, intellectual and personality) and share my life with...

I would appreciate any help and advice to meet guys that are worth... I am a little shy to approach and not into the bar scene, but once someone approaches me I am quite open and social... My friends say I am the total package, I wish I could find my total package perfect for me ;)

Do you have any advices, tips or ideas to help me???

Thanks!

Tommy!!
I have always been chubby but during my first year of University I gained a bit of weight and was around 170. Over the past while I have worked it off but I still wish to loose another 13 pounds.
I am currently 5'7 and 153 pounds, and I am 20. I was always somewhat active but over the past few months I have increased my activity and now hit the gym 5 times a week for 40minutes of running followed by 30minutes of weights/toning. I also have started back up in Kickboxing classes twice a week.
My diet doesn't follow all of Nadine's rules but it is much better than what it use to be, and I certainly pay attention to my portions. But I do realize that I ruin a good streak with a night of junk food.
I have been trying to loose these last 13 pounds for two months now and as soon as I loose a pound I seem to gain it back.. I was wondering if you had any suggestions regarding my exercise routine?
I increase the intensity of my running as I improve, and I've started pushing myself even more with weights...
help?

Hello Brad,
I am looking for some new ideas to try with my mini-schnauzer/poodle mix rescue who is about 5-6 years old- Taffy. I got her about a year and a half ago. The rescue group was really adament about making sure I was ready for a dog with some behavioural issues. To put it simply, she is possessive aggressive.. but I have noticed that there is a lot of fear involved. Her history involves a lot of biting. She has bitten everyone in my family.. especially when asked to move off the furniture.
Now, what another trainer has had me to is for her to work for her food by making her lay down and wait. This started by stepping on the leash to make her lay down (she attacked my feet several times)... but eventually she got the hint. Should I continue this method and keep challenging her with new tasks to do before she eats? If so, what new things would you suggest?
Also, on a side note, do you have any suggestions to improve dog/cat relations? We have three cats and also another 2 year old dog. We would like to not have to always worry about where the cats are and where the dogs... the cats should be able to go anywhere in the house instead of rushing from the litter boxes in the basement straight to the bedrooms upstairs. They basically dart from room to room.

Brad:
I have a 6 month old shepoo maned Marley. He is a very sweet and loveable puppy however I have some problems with him. Whenever My boyfriend or myself leave the house he will scream and cry the whole time. When we return he always has left us a little "present" so to speak. I have also tried to put him on a leash and go for a walk but when i do this he screams and has what I guess would be an anxiety attack. He wont let me brush him after a bath, he wont let anyone cut his hair which he needs badly.when certain dogs in the family come around him in gatherings he will bark non stop at them. I also have a 11 year old lab-retreiver mix female which he gets alnong with wonderfully. He follows me everywhere and if I leave him for a second behind he will cry and bark. When im sitting onthe couch he will whine to get on my lap. Any advice on what to do with his behaviour would be great thank you.

Hey Tommy
I am a single mother of 2 children and am trying to slim down my hips and waist to their pre-pregnancy size by the beginning September. Are there any ways that don't take too much time out of my day that I could do that?
Thanks Heather

Hi Tommy,
My problem area is my arms. It's not that they're incredibly huge, but they're not proportional to the rest of my body. Now, my husband says there's no way to lose weight on specific areas of your body (he says I can only tone up my muscles), and that I would need to lose weight everywhere to get rid of arm flub. The thing is I'm already very active and don't need to lose anymore weight. Is my husband right? How do I get rid of arm flub without bulking up like a WWE wrestler? Thanks!

Hi Brad,
I'm writing to you about my 3 year old miniture Jack Russell, he is overall a very good dog. When we got him we knew that Jack russells had the possible of being aggressive, and he seems to be a bit aggressive towards other dogs as well to some strangers. We have interacted him with people, and other dogs.He is usually fine, but with people if they show any signs of fear he'll be aggressive towards them, and with dogs he be okay until they steal his toy or smell him too long. It seems like he just doesn't really want to interact with other dogs, and when he does it happens at lease once that he'll snaps and them or worst. We have disciplined every time this has happened, but it always happends again. He seems like he needs to be the boss of all other dogs. This issue has started to concer and scare people away from us. More and more and we what to fix it before its too late. thanks

Hi Brad,
I have a 6 year old S***-Z-U named Oreo who is a very well behaved dog when I am home. There is just one problem. I need to travel occasionaly with my children and can't always take Oreo with us. I have a friend who is more that willing to watch him for me. She is a real dog lover and has two of her own. Oreo becomes very upset and will not let her in the door. He is so loving to her when I am home. How can I help him?

Hi Jane I need a wish. I am going nuts right now. My fiance is in Afghanistan and His mom and I are planning our wedding while hes gone. Unfortunately its not the mother in law driving me crazy, its my own mom. My fiance Josh and I just want a small backyard wedding and Josh's mom is paying for our caterer which is really nice of her. But my mom insists on inviting her friends. I told her we have finished the guest list you have 4 friends already. And that she cannot have no more. But now shes ticked off and mad at me. What am i suppose to do. I dont want conflict on my wedding day, But I also don't want her friends at my wedding. its suppose to be small and just family and a few of Josh and my close friends. Now its just getting out of hand and upsetting.
