Toronto Fashion Week Day Two - Jason Meyers
While I’m no Fashion Week virgin, the idea of attending Toronto Fashion Week was somewhat daunting. I may be sassy, but that does not include stuck up or girly. I love looking at runway shows for creativity and inspiration, and if raggedy ole’ me can take away one trick or treat from a show, then I consider my observation a success.
I’m also a sucker for searching the crowds for well known faces. The fashion community was in full force including diva and living legend Jeanne Beker, FDCC President Robin Kay, as well as a handful of Canadian media entertainment hosts and personalities.
Michael “Pinball” Clemons sat front row at the Bustle show, while model Stacey McKenzie hung out on the runway prior to the David Dixon show (she was super friendly and even made faces at the photographers). Expect there to be more celebs as the week rolls on — my guess is that Thursday and Friday will bring a more impressive audience.
After elbowing my way past the media and fashion elite, I was able to see four diverse and interesting shows. Check back throughout the day to see my "insightful" thoughts and opinions on Toronto's finest.
Jason Meyers
This might not be a name you fashionistas are familiar with, but the Fashion Design Council of Canada thinks you should be. Jason Meyers is the new kid on the block, but certainly has the resume to earn him some street cred. Some of you Slice fans may know that Meyers as the ex-partner of Project Runway Canada competitor Michael Hatley, but it would seem he has moved onwards and upwards.
Meyers described his inspiration for this Spring 2009 line by stating “an awkward morning is better than a boring night.” I suppose this means he’s having fun and that was obvious with bright colours, busy fabrics, and ruffles galore. He started with several black dresses, and methodically progressed from black and yellow patterns to bright blues. Meyers ended the show with a large and poofy white dress, a young wedding dress if you will.
Highlight: Ruffles, ruffles, ruffles. I love layers and added detail to a flirty dress — apparently so does Jason Meyers.
Lowlight: This was Mr. Meyers’ first showing at L’Oreal Fashionweek — and it showed. This fashion line reminded me of Le Chateau fabrics and youth, and not in a good way.
