NYC Fashion Week: Favourite Fall 2012 Trends

Another season of New York fashion week madness has come to a close and the "Glitterati" have moved on to prepping for Oscar's big night. Retailers and press alike have already begun to descend upon the showrooms of the star designers of NYC fashion week for closer inspections of the looks that were presented and to begin predicting what is to be coveted, and what you'll be wearing this fall.

Style: Or by Angela Chen Spring Summer 2011 Collection

Designer Angela Chen took inspiration from the film for her Spring/Summer 2011 Or by Angela Chen collection for LG's Toronto Fashion Week. Slice.ca was invited to the show and we were lucky enough to talk to the designer herself afterwards, as well as fans and recording artists Shiloh and Keisha Chanté.

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Pat McDonagh

Pat McDonagh’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection was a beautiful display of elegant luxury. A primary color palette of black, red and grey helped to refine each look and create interest. Military-style jackets trimmed with fur, interesting printed leggings, structured jackets with bold shoulders, pinstripe suits with nautical details, knitwear leggings, techno-fibre jumpsuits, shearling lined tops, lizard-printed dresses, slimming jersey dresses and latex dresses embellished with feathers all graced the catwalk.

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Evan Biddell

Project Runway Canada bad boy, Evan Biddell, always pushes the envelope with each of his collections and buyers, stylists, fashionistas and fans alike eagerly packed into the runway room last night at LG Fashion Week to see what he's come up with for Fall/Winter 2010.

Toronto Fashion Week: Greta & Ezra Constantine Fall/Winter 2010

Recently, Runway Diva and I attended the Greta and Ezra Constantine Fall/Winter 2010 shows and we decided to tag team this review!

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2009: Bustle

Yesterday, Project Runway Canada judge Shawn Hewson's Bustle Spring/Summer 2010 runway presentation transported us to a summer cottage getaway and it helped us to forget, momentarily, about the chilly fall weather outside. The runway was decorated with fabulous summer deck furniture, a barbecue, a mini bar on a cart and even a sofa. A projection completed the seasonal illlusion by lighting up the background and casting a tranquil cottage scene onto the runway backdrop.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Five: Melinda-Mae Harlingten

Vancouver based Melinda-Mae Harlingten's show was the most safe Spring 09 collection of the night. Models adorned with a single black feather in their hair, and later a complete feather headress, sashayed down the runway in hopes of invigorating the underwhelming collection with some fashion interest, but the only interest found was in our hopes that something innovative and different would come down the runway.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Five: Nada Yousif

The Nada Yousif show opened with a projection of a graffitied brick wall setting the stage for her fun and hip Spring 09 collection. Yousif's collection had something for everyone from tailored cocktail dresses, lame skinny pants, fishtail evening dresses, multicolored fringe layered skirts, billowy balloon sculptured dresses, to laser printed chiffon tutus.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Five: Lucian Matis

Fashion week favorite and Project Runway Canada alumni Lucian Matis shared his visionary showmanship by transporting us to another time and place reminiscent of a high glamour French resort with his Spring 09 show. The show was set to the soundtrack of seagulls and an accordion melody and the sounds foreshadowed the ensuing collection.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Four: Rudsak

The Rudsak Spring 09 collection clearly illustrated how leather could be manipulated and constructed and it showed why Rudsak is Canada's leading outerwear design house. Set to the soundtrack of Grace Jones' "Slave to the Rhythm", the Rudsak show was fittingly full of fashion attitude and ferociousness.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Four: Renata Morales

Renata Morales' Spring 09 collection exuded ethereal fragility and it was the most beautiful, creative, fresh, fun, and artistic show of the evening! Vibrantly colored chiffon was manipulated, tailored, and ultimately constructed into a variety of breathtakingly gorgeous dresses.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Four: Evan & Dean

Vancouver based design duo Raymond Boutet and Lyle Reimer, aka Evan & Dean (named after the designers' nephews), returned to Toronto Fashion week this year to show their Spring 09 collection.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Two - David Dixon

This former Alfred Sung apprentice was the talk of the night and certainly had the most theatrical show of the evening. David Dixon brought artistry to his signature style of “quiet elegance”.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Two - Bustle

I have a confession to make: male models scare the bejesus out of me. Maybe it’s because males being prettier than females is somewhat startling, or perhaps it’s their shockingly small frames. Either way, I can’t help but replay the Zoolander scene where all of Ben Stiller’s male model roommates spray gasoline unknowingly at each other while “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” unsubtly blares from their Jeep.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Two - Joeffer Caoc

FDCC veteran and three time Canadian Designer of the Year Joeffer Caoc is no rookie. Caoc is usually a huge crowd favourite and certainly deserves praise with his beautiful fabrics, flawless seams, and flowing feminine designs.

Toronto Fashion Week Day Two - Jason Meyers

While I’m no Fashion Week virgin, the idea of attending Toronto Fashion Week was somewhat daunting. I may be sassy, but that does not include stuck up or girly. I love looking at runway shows for creativity and inspiration, and if raggedy ole’ me can take away one trick or treat from a show, then I consider my observation a success.
