Designer Angela Chen took inspiration from the film for her Spring/Summer 2011 Or by Angela Chen collection for LG's Toronto Fashion Week. Slice.ca was invited to the show and we were lucky enough to talk to the designer herself afterwards, as well as fans and recording artists Shiloh and Keisha Chanté.

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Pat McDonagh

Pat McDonagh’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection was a beautiful display of elegant luxury. A primary color palette of black, red and grey helped to refine each look and create interest. Military-style jackets trimmed with fur, interesting printed leggings, structured jackets with bold shoulders, pinstripe suits with nautical details, knitwear leggings, techno-fibre jumpsuits, shearling lined tops, lizard-printed dresses, slimming jersey dresses and latex dresses embellished with feathers all graced the catwalk.

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Lundström

For Fall/Winter 2010, Lundstrom showed a beautiful, cohesive and highly wearable collection comprised of luxurious velvets, rich leathers, chunky knits, bold graphic prints, delicate cashmere and colored wools. Fur was subtly incorporated into a number of looks as trim, head pieces and neck pieces. The runway was graced by a variety of interesting and fun silhouettes created by glamorous wool capes, pleated A-line skirts, sleek trench coats, bell bottom sleeved tops, sleeveless suits, asymmetrical velvet evening dresses, thigh-high chunky knit socks and paper-bag skirts. The simple color palette of beige, brown, grey and black added to the overall elegance of the collection.

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Pink Tartan

There was a lot about last night's Pink Tartan show that I liked. The styling was fantastic. I loved the side braids and aviator caps worn by the models. The leather was gorgeous — in particular, a soft-looking puff-sleeved dress and a pleated high-waisted skirt. One model with a long-fringed pixie cut looked strikingly like designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran in an outfit that I consider her trademark look: a sexy pencil skirt and crisp white shirt. In this exceptional case, the shirt featured a silver-studded collar and the skirt was a metallic black brocade.

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Andy The-Anh

Andy The-Anh has a romantic eye and his collections are always a feminine mix of influences. Last night's show was no different. Its film noir-meets-tango theme was well threaded throughout, starting with the smokey visuals at the opening of the show, moody yet sexy music, high heeled-stomping sound effects and of course the clothes. The designer managed to take an abstract camoflage print and turn it into elegant eveningwear. And there were other military-inspired accents in the addition of a cargo pocket to sophisticated black pants and skirts. There were structured grown-up ruffles done in gowns, flippy flamenco skirts and body-conscious leather. I enjoyed the show and imagine that the collection will sell well but the presentation felt a little long. On the other hand, reviewing the photos, I'm not sure I can see any outfits that needed to stay backstage. I'm glad I saw them all.

Toronto's LG Fashion Week 2010: Preloved Fall/Winter Collection

Preloved showcased its Fall/Winter 2010 collection yesterday evening and the focus was all about the legs! Founder Julia Grieve and Creative Director Peter Friesen somehow always manage to combine a variety of reclaimed vintage fabrics to create a truly individual one-of-a kind look. As a fan of Preloved, I was expecting to see much of its signature look, which is to incorporate plaids and patterns with knitted and wool fabrics. I was not expecting to be pleasantly surprised by the constant theme of knee- and thigh-high stockings.
