Top 10 Guilty Pleasure Pop Songs
Have you ever heard a song on the radio that you know you shouldn't like but just can't help it? My love of bad pop songs has been a personal shame that I've tried to keep hidden for years. I can't lend out my iPod for fear that someone will stumble across my secret playlist entitled "studying". I even keep said iPod super close to my body while commuting for fear that the cute boy sitting next to me will see the horrible songs and judge me.
So why am I sharing this personal shame with all of you? Well, I think this is a burden most people carry and more importantly while not all of these songs are in my guilty pleasure list, I guarantee they are in the list of someone you know. It may even be yours!
Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way
Boy bands were the ultimate in the
late 90's and it didn't get any bigger than BSB. They had it all, the
bad boy, the baby face, the boy next door, the joker and the older more
mature guy add in the serenading and girls everywhere went wild.
The Bare Naked Ladies - If I had a Million Dollars
Sure Travie Macoy
singing about being a billionaire is cool, but let's not forget how it
all started. The Ladies folky jingle about winning the lottery is one of
those songs everyone knows, and loves it's just not broadcasted.
Ke$ha - Tik Tok
Often criticized for "sing-talking" and
being a "poor role model" Ke$ha is just a girl who sings about what happens when you have a little too much fun. To be honest, I think every girl
has a little bit of Ke$ha in her.
Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me
As cute and charming as Taylor Swift is, admit it, this song is just embarrassing!
Aqua - Barbie Girl
This 90's hit was so fun and cheery, and with super simple lyrics it is near impossible to not sing along! The music video helped propel this song to its greatest potential, nearly 15 years later this video is still clear as day in mind, but for those of you who need a refresher, check it out below!
Rod Stewart - Da Ya Think I'm Sexy
Looking at billboard charts I was shocked to find out that in 2004 this was touted to be one of the top 500 greatest songs of all time, then it hit me this is a guilty pleasure! After all who would admit to liking a song about a one night stand by Rod Stewart?
Akon ft. Kardinal Official - Body Bounce
Like Da Ya Think I'm Sexy, this song is too raunchy to publicly admit to liking. As a woman I should be offended, but sadly I am not. The beat is perfect and they are complimenting all body types so it's not that bad right?
Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA
This is one of those songs that you don't know how you figured out the lyrics to, but you just know it and you sing it with passion, as long as no one is watching.
Rebecca Black - Friday
At first it was a total joke, but that
whiny voice has actually cemented a spot in the hearts of many. This
song single handedly proves that the key to making a good pop song lies
mainly in the constant airplay.
Justin Bieber - Baby, Baby, Baby Oooh!
As much as I try to hate
on The Biebs I just can't do it, the kid can dance and he is Canadian so
there has to be a little love there and it's catchy, I blame Usher! Sigh, I'm
never going to live this one down.
So what makes a good guilty pleasure pop song? Well it has to have either a scandalous topic that would make society blush or a voice that is slightly irritating to the ears. Couple these elements with constant radio air play and a funny music video and you have instant success!
